My Samsung is HL-F6167W is 2 years old. Recently, the picture is green on the cable. The DVD input also shows a green picture. But, the game input is OK and/or has a checker board apprearance. We powered the TV off to let it reset. OK for a while then the green picture was back. Heard a screeching noise but only for a short period. Replaced the lamp and the TV worked for about a day. Now the green picture is back on the cable and DVD picture. Game input seems to be OK. Also, the TV guide is perfect. I am being told by my closest service center (2 hours away) tech that I may need a color wheel unit. He said the cost is about $400-$800 with parts and labor. Two issues - (1) want to make sure this is the problem and (2) would like to replace myself. ANY SUGGESTIONS OR HELP IS APPRECIATED.
I got the same problem. Checkered board. 2 or 3 years old. Vertical lines evenly spaced over the checkered board with a green static tint. All inputs have this and the TV's internal menu options are perfectly clear.

On the five wire cable, the red, blue and green are for the picture. The other two connectore are for the audio. Not all TV's have this type of input. The link above has information about the five wire and other input cables.
The picture turns green if the component input cables are not connected in. Can you confirm that it is what you are using when you get the green picture? If yes can you please clarify the connection sequence of the RBG cables and the repective ports like Yb, Pb,Pr?
Some Samsungs have a problem if the set is turned on bfore the input put device due to a firmware issue. Try turning on the device (game, DVD, etc) BEFORE turning on the TV. Let me know if this helped.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it is not something that has a quick fix. Without inspecting it myself it is impossible to say, but the last three of these that I have seen have been bad digital boards and can be a real bear to change, even when you have experience.
I would get slightly different video symptoms when I would switch between the coaxial input to the component input to the HDMI input. But in all cases my on screen display and menu were anomally free. Hope this was helpful, even though I don't think it is something you should attack yourself.
My Samsung DLP is having the same problem. Not sure what to do, but I will contact my warranty place for the second time. Hopefully they'll fix it. Any other suggestions?
Problem solved. I tried playing DVD and the TV picture was fine. So I double-checked cable wires from cable box - one of the wires was loose (obviously it was the red color input). After tightening, the TV picture is good as new.
