We are getting dozens of pop-ups and can get rid of some of them

Popups are annoying messages or advertisements that literally "pop up" while you are on the Internet.
They use to be a huge problem, but with the releases of newer software to block them, they aren't as bad.
When a user is on the Internet, and a new window opens up without them meaning for it to, and there is an ad in the new window that popped up.
That is a popup. To get rid of popups, you're going to need some kind of popup software to stop them from appearing.

Search the Internet until you find a trustworthy Internet popup utility.
Be sure it comes from a reputable downloading source and has good reviews before you download it though.
There are scam softwares disguised as popup blockers, but these will actually add more popups.
Try the Google toolbar (there is a link in the Resources).
https://support.google.com/toolbar/answer/9230?hl=en&ref_topic=3338424
This service is made by Google and since they make a lot of internet advertisements, it makes sense that they know how to block them.
Just navigate to the install website and let it install.
The service is free and is automatic.
It will block most popups and includes a search bar linked straight to Google so you don't have to go to Google's website to search for things.
You can use that search bar.

Give the Yahoo toolbar as well (See link Below).
http://download.cnet.com/Yahoo-Toolbar-with-Anti-Spyware/3000-12512_4-10310984.html
Their toolbar is free and also has a popup blocker.
Like Google's toolbar, they offer a built in search engine in it.
Their's has a spyware searcher as well though. It can scan your computer for spyware which one of the causes of popups.

Download and try Smart Popup Blocker if you aren't satisfied with other services.
http://download.cnet.com/Smart-Popup-Blocker/3000-7786_4-10282837.html?tag=mncol
This doesn't add a toolbar to your web browser like Yahoo or Google.
Instead, it is software that runs in the background of your computer and blocks popups to the best of its ability.
It only works in Internet Explorer though.
You also might want to install antimalware and superantispyware

To sign in to Web Messenger, you'll need to disable the Pop-Up Blocker. Follow the steps for your browser:

For Firefox:

  1. When a pop-up is blocked:
    - You'll see a bar at the top of the browser window that says "Firefox prevented this site from opening a pop-up window."
    - On the right side of that bar, you'll see an Options or Preferences button.
  2. Click Options or Preferences ' select Allow popups for webmessenger.yahoo.com.
  3. Click Sign-in again.
    - You may need to reload the sign-in page.

For Internet Explorer:

  1. When a pop-up is blocked:
    - You'll see a yellow bar at the top of the browser window.
    - You'll see a message that says "Pop-up blocked. To see this pop-up or additional options click here...".
  2. Click on that yellow bar at the top of the browser window ' select Always Allow Pop-ups from This Site ' click Yes on the confirmation dialog.
  3. Click Sign-in again.

For Safari:

  1. You'll see a warning above the Sign-in button.
    - You won't see any other type of warning.
  2. Select the Safari menu at the top-left of your screen ' un-check Block Pop-up Windows.
  3. Click on Sign-in again

How do I install my Logitech webcam? My niece uses Yahoo Messenger, but when I tried to install it, my home page chanaged to Yahoo and numerous popups appear daily.

Hello,

Let me explain the procedure on how to install the Webcam.

Procedure is same for all Brand Webcams.

First disconnect the Webcam from the Computer. Insert the Webcam driver disks and follow onscreen steps to complete the installtion.

In between the installtion, it will ask you to connect the Webcam. There you have to connect the Webcam, then small installtion will run and Cam will be ready to use.

If it won't ask you to connect the Webcam, then after completing the installtion you can connect the cam.

Comming to the Home page and POPups issue.

While installing the Webcam driver by following the onscreen steps, somewhere there will be checks for "Set Yahoo as home page" or "Install yahoo or Google tool bar etc" you have to uncheck all those kind of things while installing the driver software.

Anyhow, I will also provide steps on how to change the Internet explorer home page and Block POPups.

Here are the steps to change the Home page of Internet Explorer:

1. Open Internete explorer.

2. Click on Tools Menu--Internet Options.

3. Under Homepage, Enter the Website you want to set as default and press Enter (Eg: www.google.com)

4. Click Apply--ok

To block the POPUPs:

1. Open Internete explorer.

2. Click on Tools Menu--Internet Options.

3. Click on Privacy Tab

4. Check box for BLOCK POPUPS

5. Click Apply--Ok.

Hope that helps you!!

Yahoo messenger

If you have downloaded the Messenger software here: http://messenger.yahoo.com then your system will work proper assuming you have an ID at yahoo. If you trying to display the messenger at this address: http://webmessenger.yahoo.com is different to the other I have shown. That page is for those who log in from someone elses computer or if your in and Internet cafe. If its still saying Internet explorer needs to close for any other reason then update your Explorer the latest software is Explorer 7.0.5730.11 but only if you have XP service pack 2 or higher.
