Trying to connect my router to Centurylink, I have a solid DSL light and my connection status shows a speed. PPP connection is stuck on connecting. I am trying to determine whether this is due to my router settings and what I need to change them to.

You need to verify your connection type w/ Centurylink- they may run on DHCP which is a different connection protocol than PPPoE. If you have a static IP address, fair warning: the Verizon Actiontec is historically tetchy on static and NOT to be used as a primary modem/router- it will lose settings.

Why are both the Wireless and WPS lights on my modem\router always on solid green, when I only have a DSL connection?

The wireless and WPS lights solid green mean that the wifi and WPS are active. It also means that your home network is exposed to anyone with a laptop/pad/smart phone who knows how to hack into systems that have not been set up properly with the proper security.
I see the following security issues with your router:
1. The router's password is still the default or it does not have one.
(This means anyone who knows your router maker and model can easily break into your network and systems and steal your info, the router maker is broadcast by your wifi SSID, so they know it)
2. WPS is enabled and active (WifiProtectedSetup)(this service is a major security hole that is used by hackers to gain access to routers, it must be disabled for protection)
3. The wireless (wifi) connections are open (not encrypted), anyone can intercept the wireless traffic and read it. WPA2/AES encryption needs to be configured for the best protection.
4. The router's built in firewall may not be configured correctly exposing you to drive-by hacking.
To resolve these issues requires someone who understands router security and is best done onsite.
You need to engage someone you trust to check and configure your router and computer systems properly to protect yourself.

How to Configure Belkin routers for Centurylink, Embarq, Bell sympatico, Bell...

How to Configure Belkin routers without installation CD for Centurylink, Embarq, Bell sympatico, Bell Canada ISPs ?
Configuring Belkin routers without installation CD for Centurylink, Embarq, Bell sympatico, Bell Canada ISPs :
  • Connect the Computer to the Router in one of the 4 ports named wired (usually grey in color) using an Ethernet cable.
  • Do not connect the modem to the router.
  • Open internet explorer / Firefox / chrome or any of your default web browser.
  • In the address bar type the default gateway address of Belkin router i.e., 192.168.2.1
  • Belkin router setup page (RSP) will be displayed.
f7dd033.jpg
Wired Part Configuration:
We need to configure the wired part by following these steps.
Step 1: You need to LOGIN to the router for making any changes. (No login password, just leave it blank and click SUBMIT)
Step 2: Click on LAN settings (found on left side of RSP), change the IP address from 192.168.2.1 to 192.168.40.1 and save changes.
Step 3: Now Connect the DSL Modem to Router in the port named Modem (usually yellow in color) using another Ethernet cable.
***Once you are done that, you need to re-login to RSP by typing the new IP address 192.168.40.1 in the address bar of web browser.

Step 4: Check for the internet status at the top right hand corner of RSP. If it is connected then the wired part is working perfect with the router (wired computers will go online). Need not follow the steps below, directly jump to wireless part configuration.
Step 5: If the Internet Status is not connected then, click on CONNECTION TYPE (found on left side of RSP), it has to be selected as DYNAMIC and click next. It will ask for HOST NAME, leave it blank or you can type anything there and click on APPLY CHANGES.
Step 6: Now check for the internet status at the top right hand corner of belkin RSP. If it says connected then everything for the wired part is configured perfectly. You can go ahead and configure for the wireless part.
If it is not connected then we need to do a network power cycle.

Steps to be followed for performing Network power cycle:
  • Unplug the power cable of both your modem and router.
  • Wait for 30 seconds.
  • Plug back the power cable of the modem and wait until all the lights are lit up in it.
  • Now plug back the power cable to the router and check for the lights in the router.
Modem & Internet lights will be lit and they will be solid (blue/green) in the router; it says that the Internet status is connected. Now you will be able to go online in the wired computers.

If still Modem & Internet lights are not solid in the router; it may be blinking in red/ amber it says that the Internet status is not connected. You will not be able to go online in the wired computers.

In this case you need to connect your computer directly to the modem and check whether you are able to go online. If you are not able to go online, then you need to contact your ISP and fix your issue with internet.

The above method is applicable only for Embarq, century link, Bell Sympatico, Bell Canada ISPs. Because these ISPs will have the IP address same as Belkin routers....

If nothing works then you need to contact your ISP and ask them to bridge the modem...Bridging the modem disables NAT in the modem and allows you to get a public IP in the modem.

All lights of the modem are on but there is no internet connection although I reset the modem, turned off everything and unplugged and waited for 6 minutes. Besides, I went to the 192......., put the dsl...

1. Call DSL provider verify service is active. They should be able to ping their DSL modem.
2. If good service, plug your pc directly into dsl modem. If youre able to connect, then the router is bad. Youll need a new one.
3. If I read this wrong, and its the dsl modem that is not connecting, AND the service says its working, then it maybe the dsl network port has failed. In which case report it to your service provider and they should replace the unit for you.
4. You can try to unplug and replug the network cables, all of them. Or try different ones. Its just possible you are getting a poor connection at the wire terminator.

ADSL Router DSL-G604T

all ADSL routers are very fussy when it comes to power fluctuations, even the tiniest can set them into error, first thing to try, is pull the power cord out of the back of the modem, wait a couple of minuteds, then plug it back it, give it a few moments to re-connect and see how it is, if no luck with that, check the DSL, or ADSL light is on and solid.. if so look on the bottom of the modem for an ip address, open internet explorer browser, type that ip address into the address bar and hit enter, it should prompt you for a username and password.. usually ADMIN for both user and pass.. then go to "status" or "diagnostics" depending on the modem, and it will give you a run down on any potential problem..

PPP error: username and password are wrong (Authentication Failure)
