I have LG super multi DVD drive Model GSA-H20N ROM Ver:1.01 When I connect it my PC ,it is not detected by hthe system,although it shows LED blinking and CD flap comes out when button is pressed.I use Acer Power series PC and there is at all no problem with it as other CD writer works well with the settings and same conncetors.I tried all master slave configurations and even tried changing BIAS settings. It is not also getting detected in Bias. I tried opening it .the lens base was moving up and down normally as I tied comparing it with other LG CD writer ;but the red lens laser keeps lighted up contiously and does not go off after some time. Please help me out n tell me if lens is to be replaced and also tell me price of new lens......Thank You

SOURCE: Computer shuts down on inserting disc

I have just fixed a computer with a similar problem. The owner installed a new DVD burner (a SATA drive) and every time he inserted a CD or DVD disc, the computer shutdown (mostly, because the front LED was still on and the CPU fan too, everything else just turned off [drives, PCI cards]). It happened in Windows, in Linux (Ubuntu) and even in the BIOS screen, so I discarded an OS problem. Also happened while booting if a CD or DVD was already inserted in the unit; as soon as the drive LED blinked, the computer crashed. After checking the obvious, I did three final tests:

1) try the DVD unit in another computer (it worked);
2) try the DVD unit with the power connector only, with the data cable disconnected (it shutdown);
3) try the DVD unit with the power connector from and external power supply, with the data cable connected (it worked).

By this point, it was obviously a power supply problem. I checked the power supply unit (PSU) and discovered it was pretty small (250 W). So I installed a more powerful one (350 W) and then it worked.

I checked with a wattmeter and it seems this DVD drive increased the power consumption by 25 watts when started to spin the disc. I really don't know if that is normal (taking 25W to start spinning the disc) or if this drive has some defect, but it seems the previous PSU could not provide that extra power and shutdown some of its output (but not all).

So, if you have this weird problem, maybe checking the power supply and testing with a bigger one may help.

Regards,

MV

SOURCE: have a internal super multi dvd rewriter , oh it's LG 22x. Any way , it will not show up in hardware and does not recongnize dvd's, like the hardware does not exist on my pc and it's totally connected

Have you tried pluging the USB cable ALL the way in to the drive, it CAN go in a lot more than it LOOKS, really push it all the way in.

SOURCE: Compurt is not recognizing a new LG 22x Internal DVD rec

Change the Master/Slave/CableSelect(CS) jumper on the back of the drive (between the power connector and IDE cable)

STEP 1:
Check that the IDE cable red stripe goes to pin 1 (closest to power plug) flip cable if needed.

STEP 2:
Move Jumper to SLAVE position. reboot. check for drive in os. if it's not there;

STEP 3:
Move Jumper to MASTER position. reboot.

If it's still not working replace your IDE cable and try again

SOURCE: My LG DVD writer GSA-H55N not detecting CDs and some DVDs

Some DVD/CD drivers have two lasers: one for DVD and the other for CD. Not sure if this is your case but looks like the laser for CD discs is gone. The only way to repair it to replace the pickup mechanism. Anyway, it's hard to diagnose your issue as it may be caused by drivers, dust, software that interferes with the CD/DVD drivers, etc.

SUPER MULTI WRITER DOES NOT RECOGNIZE A DVD

Try this, but be very careful. Only edit these entries.

Click start, run, type regedit

Navigate to this registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\
{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Delete the "UpperFilters" and "LowerFilters" entries.

If you have more than one key with that number, use the first one.

Super multi dvd writer gsa-h55n

Well, since I received a solution from MAXTRIXKHAN, I just wanted to check back with NCIX.com, and here is a recap of what I did, and what they told me...

After a few tries, I had to contact LG Customer service.
I tried to burn to...

-Maxell CD-R, no problems,
-TDK DVD-RW, no problems,
-Verbatim DVD+R, Computer hangs.

Well, I bought this DVD-Writer to replace my old GSA-4167B, and LG customer service told me that this DVD-Writer does not support the Verbatim DVDs.

So, if you have plenty of Verbatim DVDs, you should forget about this writer.

Supported DVDs...
Maxell, Sony, TDK

Will have to send it back to NCIX

So beware

LG Super Multi will not detect DVDs in the drive

Sounds like you may have a firmware issue. I had something similar on a Sony external dvd writer. If you go here: http://uk.lge.com/ click on Download Software in the bottom left, then DVD-ROM(Writer) near the middle, scroll down a bit (maybe also be on the following pages) It's listed as: New firmware (ver. SE02) for only GSA-E40L(External 18X Super multi DVD Writer) Run the firmware updater and you should be good to go
