Whirlpool MH3184XP Microwave Turns On, Heats, but sounds like fans not working. 4 years old, fans worked fine until they seem not as loud anymore. The magnetron is working fine as it heats (did the 1 cup water/2 minutes heat test), turntable works, everything does except for the level of the fan sound.

Thanks. Are you referring to the Motor Fan (looks like a turbine in the middle with 2 black covers on each side) that is visible when the top vent cover is removed to change the charcoal filter? If so, do I have to un-install the microwave bolted into the cabinet to access it? Thanks.

The model is MH3184XPS (Stainless Steel)

Suggest you pull the plug out, remove outer cover and place a cup of water into the micro. Set power to minimum then switch on and take note if the fan works or not. If not, switch off immediately and have it replaced(magnatron will burn out if left to run without fan.)

My microwave made a loud "pop"and now hums loudly

Since the microwave is humming, that tells me that the diode is bad and needs to be replaced.

Microwave not heating items, also range vent not operating

the unit inside the microwave that heats called the "magnetron" has gone bad or the circuits that power the magnetron and other parts of the unit have failed. if its under warranty still, send it back to the manufacturer. if not you can call some repair shops and see how much it would be to service it, but its most likely going to be cheaper to purchace a new microwave since they are relatively cheap these days, they dont make them long lasting anymore, they are a "disposable" product these days

Occasionally, the unit growls with a loud noise while operating. I stop it and when the frowling stops, I restart it and it works normally for a while. then it will do the same thing again. It cooks...

This is probably lack of lubrication of either the cooling fan or the turntable if it has one.

If the cooling fan fails totally, the magnetron will fail so service the unit immediately.

Humming sound when off

I also have the same microwave model and with the same problem. It is not quite 2 years old. I have a service call scheduled but did e-mail customer service at Whirlpool to inform them of this. Sounds like it could be defective model and a fire hazard. You should also inform them of yours.

Microwave does not heat/cook

hi

power spikes are very damaging to a microwaves internal parts, it sounds like your transformer and/or magnetron are blown. if the unit is out of warranty I would recommend calling a repairman or getting a new microwave (the transformer & magnetron are expensive and dangerous to work on) also get a small single plug surge protector for the new one.

My Whirlpool MH3184xps is shooting a spark when in use with the rack. When the rack is removed the oven works fine. I am guessing that some of the coating on the rack has cracked and peeled and is exposing some aluminum. Has anyone else had this problem?
