My gom player is looking for a codec to play my downloaded videos from you tube

You can download/ install Media Player Classic
Download the latest version of Media Player Classic (K-Lite Codec) FOR FREE
It is a small but a very fine Media Player which also installs all the required CODEC and you can play all audio - video files.

open gom player and press F1 and select update it will be paly all media you need.

Possible Reason:

* Ensure that you have downloaded a genuine version and not a broken file, which is likely to miss some codecs, GOM is a FREE media player with popular audio & video codecs built-in. So you won't need to install separate codecs for most videos. For those videos that require a separate codec, GOM Player will find one.

* Without the appropriate codec, you'll be prohibited from playing AV files/the codec for which the file you are playing is missing (playback error), which prompts you to "Find Codec" screen. In the case you need other codecs, the 'Find Codec' popup will assist you in searching for the correct codec to play your file. If you didn't find any: first reason is likely to be the issue.

Hi, Supported formats include DAT, MPEG, DivX, XviD, WMV, ASF, AVI, and MOV, as are common codecs like FLV1, AC3, OGG, MP4, and H263. A pop-out playlist can save and organize your various media files, though the limited sort modes--two--hardly makes it a champ.

You can't add codecs to GOM Player - they are enbedded.
Use instead VLC, this player truly supports pretty much everything.

You'll need a FLV decoder. I'd recommend using the K-Lite Codec Pack, which includes ALL the video/audio codecs to play any multimedia file today... It's recommended to uninstall any existing codecs prior to the installation of the codecs pack!

Probably you need K-Lite Codec Pack or K-Lite Mega Codec Pack.

there is not a special way for it, you can drag & drop the selected video. But some video file types not work in GOM player, if do you want to play it then update the player with new Codec files
