Network adaptor problem

Hello,
Earlier today after starting my computer, it did an update. It was an HP update. After the update, I lost my network adaptor. I went to device manager and my adaptor could not start.[code 10]. Any Ideas?

    Hello,

I tried to roll back my computer to an earlier date, but failed. I tried 3 different dates. I still get a 'code 10' or failure to start from my network adapter. I did some windows updates yesterday and for a short time I had the wireless adapter working. Then other problems developed regarding my virus protection and True Vector internet monitor. I uninstalled the antivirus program and reinstalled it and everything was working except for the code 10 for my wireless adapter. It seems like it should be an easy fix for some that understands computers.I'm not that person.

Thanks for your help so far!!

    Jim

This computer runs Vista Home Premium. It was purchased last October at Best Buy. I don't know how to check BIOS Date. I have everything running well on this computer except for the wireless adapter.

Try roll back update, or restore a date to an earlier date when it was all working.

Do you have Windows XP SP2 or SP3 on your HP, and how old is your HP Pavilion DV1000 notebook (check F2 BIOS date)?

Fast and easy option is to use Internet
Service Provider (ISP) specific drivers and setup configuration disk
provided "free" to subscribed dial-up or broadband provider. Call ISP's “free” technical support
to help you setup and configure wireless adapter and connection.

ISP disk and ISP tech support would guide you through LAN and wireless connection, using username, password, network and wireless properties, network connection, ipconfig, IP, subnet mask, gateway, DHCP, DNS, WPA security key, firewall, username and
    password, winsock etc.

Hello.

Test your laptop at a different location to see if any difference.

If still the network adapter, first try to update the driver by going to Device Manager, find the network adapter and select update. You'll actually be reinstalling the current driver software.

If still a problem, the network adapter would need to be physically removed and replaced.

Hope this helps.

I cant connect just one network

Be sure that your wireless network is working
Check your wireless router settings
Check if you see any other wireless network available on your computer
Test connection, see if you pulled an IP address
Go to the Windows desktop
Select Start then Run
In the text box type: cmd (WIN98/SE type command)
At the command prompt type: ipconfig
4. What does it read as the IP address?
* If it reads 192.168. something dot something then you are pulling
an IP address and are connected to the network. The problem is
software related, check your firewall, and wireless card configuration.
Also check any WPA or WEP encryption keys. Check with the respective
manufactures.
* If it reads 0.0.0.0 for the IP address you are not connected to the network.
* Check your connection configuration and the adaptor.
* Check with the respective manufactures.
STEP TWO/ Basic troubleshooting continued....Testing the adaptor
1. Go to Windows desktop
2. Select Start then Run
3. In the text box type: cmd (WIN98/SE type command)
A DOS window will open.
4. At the prompt type: ping 127.0.0.1 (reserved IP address for all adaptors)
5. Check the line that reads "packets sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0
A. Zero is good, the adaptor is working. Again check the connection
configuration,and the adaptor configuration.
It may be a power issue especially with older or less expensive computers
or wireless cards.
* Check the antenna location, are you inside or outside, look for interference.
* Check with the respective manufactures.
B. If it reads all 4 packets lost, the adaptor is not functioning.
* Check and update the drivers, Contact the respective manufactures.
* If it shows any number of packets lost (you are dropping packets)
it is an adaptor or signal strength issue (generally form the laptop side,
not being able to reach back) especially with older or less expensive
computers or wireless cards.
* Update the drivers
* Check antenna location, or distance from the signal
* Contact the respective manufactures.

Network Connection (LAN) for HP 650C

Plug it directly into the router and set the printer up on your Win2k/Xp as a network printer via the new printer wizard. The router will allow it to pull an IP number and you will find it on the network that way. It does not have USB because it was meant as an office printer and the option was network adaptor when purchased. If you look at the card in it, you can see it can be swapped out for another adaptor.
