There's nothing wrong with your camera. The D40 works as SLRs have worked for half a century, using a mirror to project the image through the viewfinder. The live view feature is a relatively recent development among dSLRs, previously available only on point&shoot cameras.

LCD Screen

Your camera is working exactly as SLRs have worked for the first half-century since their invention. You frame the picture through the viewfinder then take the shot. The display is for menu settings and reviewing pictures after they've been taken. Newer DSLRs will let you use the display for picture-taking (and take videos) but the A200 belongs to the previous generation.

Lcd doesnt work for picture taking

It's not supposed to. The D80 works as SLRs have worked for half a century, allowing you to frame the picture through the viewfinder. The LiveView capability was introduced with later cameras such as the D90 and D300. On the D80 the display is used for settings, menus, and reviewing pictures after they've been taken.

Nikon digital SLR LCD viewfinder

No. The D60's LCD is used for menus, shooting settings, and reviewing pictures after you take them. You have to use the viewfinder to compose your pictures. Nikon introduced the LiveView capability into their DSLRs with the D3 and the D300, introduced after the D60.

The image will not display in the viewfinder when taking the picture. Picture does show after it is taken but can not see it when trying to take it.

You mean the LCD screen and not the viewfinder, right? That's the way the D60 works. Like other SLR cameras for over half a century, it offers a viewfinder (that's the little window at the back of the "hump") for framing and composition. The LCD screen is for review (looking at the picture AFTER you take it) and for menus. More recent DSLRs offer a LiveView capability where you use the screen for framing and composition. Nikon introduced this feater with the D3 and D300, released a year or so after the D60.
Sorry if that wasn't the answer you wanted to see, but there it is.

Black screen while shooting, but still taking pictures not black

Nonononooooo fotomohamed, he can review just taken pictures on the LCD. The screen is working.

Actually, it sounds like you just accidentally pressed the DISPLAY button on the back of your camera. This manually turns the screen on and off in picture taking mode to save batteries (you would then use optical viewfinder). Just press it once and it should turn back on.

LCD SCREEN

LCD = Lousy Camera Device? Get used to using the optical viewfinder. The LCD is great for reviewing images after you've taken them, but it leaves a lot to be desired as a viewfinder. Keeping your camera steady is no small feat at the best of times, but being forced to hold the camera away from your body to view an image through the LCD adds a new level of instability to the picture-taking process.
