Hi, You are not specifying the brand and model number of your calculator and that makes things more difficult for me. On the Casio calculators (FX-300ES, FX-115ES, FX-991ES) there is key labeled [S to D] which toggles between Fractions/Radicals To Decimals. On other calculators (Sharp), the key may be labeled F To E. You should look for a key that has two letters with a two-sided arrow linking the letters.
Why I even try to answer a question that lacks basic information and give the opportunity to the asker to shoot me dead is beyond me.
Generally, MathIO gives results in fractions or radicals. But sometimes it does not. I tried multiplying or dividing fractions or radicals by integer numbers, and once in while I got a decimal result and was unable to cast it into a fraction or a radical. I was not able to find the pattern. In lineIO you only get decimal results. What can one tell you that you cannot determine for yourself? If you appreciate the functionalities of the MathIO, it seems like an insignificant price to pay to press ONE button to switch between displays. It needs to be done ONLY once, for the last result one wants to record. Your calculator, Your rules. But sometimes one cannot eat the cake and have it too.
