My Whirlpool duet sport machine occasionally has "stained" laundry. I can't figure out what causes it since I don't wash colors and whites together. The stains appear to be blue. Could this be a fabric softener issue? What will make it stop? Happens periodically, not constantly. We have well water.

Sounds like bad drum seals. Check all the way around the drum at the wall for sections of seals missing or an uneven gap around the drum at the wall.

I suggest pouring a whole bottle of hydrogen peroxide on it and let it sit overnight. You can try the same thing with straight bleach. I have even mixed to the two together and found that it works but DO NOT suggest mixing the two together. There is a reaction that it caused by the two combined. Apart from that you may need to purchase the RIT color remover to see if that works.

I have been getting brown stains in the shape of a line on items of clothing washed in my Whirlpool duet washer. It is not the dryer causing the problem. We get the brown streaks on our white clothes before putting them in the dryer. I have ruined more white clothes over the past six months with this Duet washing machine!!! We also don't use bleach so I don't think it is the HE/Clorox combo that somebody mentioned earlier. Anybody know what exactly is causing this yet... before I throught the moldy stain causing Whirlpool duet out?
