My Sony VAIO PCV-650 has a dead DVD drive. I am sufficiently
hardware-competent to replace the drive with a new one, except for one
thing:
The case front panel has nonstandard half-height openings in front of
its removable-media drive bays, and there doesn't seem to be an obvious
way to remove the panels which block the other half of the opening..
Do those panels interfere with the ability of generic third-party
optical drives to open and close? Do I *have* to get a
Sony-branded replacement drive? What do I do to get a working DVD
drive into that horrible case?
Yes,Specs says that it has SATA controller:
Product Description: Sony VAIO PCV-RS602 - P4 3.2 GHz
