I have a JVC 20 GB camcorder. Model GZ-MG2-1U. Before I tried to install an 8MB SD I selected on the menu to protect all. I turned the camera off, installed the SD card, turned the power on and then I went to the menu to format the SD card. I received an SD card error. So I tried again, noticing all files I had stored on the hard drive had been erased. I then tried a 2MB SD card. I got the same message "SD card error. Please tell me what I am doing wrong or a method I can use to recover my lost date and install an SD card. The card that I am using is one that the owner's manual recommends, ScanDisk.Thank you.

There should not be anything to install when inserting an SD card, all you do is put the card in the card slot. If you tell it to format you have to go into the menu first and tell the camera which you are referring to the card or the harddrive. If you didnt change the setting to SD card when you did give it the format command than that is why your data was lost. If you are having an SD card error make sure that the little slide switch on the card is set as not to protect the card that will give the error sometimes. I hope this helps

Jvc everio GZ-MC500 does not recognize High capacity SD

Beyond 2GB SD Card this model can not support. Why? because this model carries the logo SD, where as 2gb is the maximum, although there are some companies manufacturing SD with the capacity of more 2 GB but this is illegal(not standard for SD) do not conform with SD. New models can support HCSD (High Capacity SD) as far as 32GB can be found in the market. Hope this helps

SD Compatibility

nope. The largest it'll take is 2GB SDIO-compliant SD flash media. SDHC is right out of the window with this model.

I have a JVC Everio GZ-MG21EK Camcorder can anyone tell me the maximum sd card that you can use with this camcorder

There is no limit beyond the limits of the SD cards themselves. The JVC Everio GZ-MG21EK camera DOES NOT support SDHC cards, so you are restricted to the smaller capacities of the non-SDHC SD cards. I am successfully using a 2GB SD card in this model.
