After it cycles I open up dishwasher and the soap tray is open with soap leaking out and on dishes. How can I tell if this is a problem with float switch or water inlet valve because I think it's not getting any water? have maytag MDB3700AWE. also checked to make sure nothing stuck in float.

The dishwasher completed it cycle but didn't use any dish soap and didn't clean the dishes.

It appears that, the soap compartment box did not open during the wash cycle. First check that whether this is the problem. If water flow is good and you are convinced that, the wash has taken place without the soap then, check the soap box relay latch ( if you can do it yourself.)

If this is not possible you have take the help of the service provider authorized by the co.
You can keep soap in a small cup and place it in the upper tray in a suitable place and run the wash till the repairs are attended!.

Dishwasher won't access soap tray

Check if the dish rack is reversed. If it is, it'll block the dispenser from opening.
If that is not the case - you may have problems with soap dispencer solenoid or with control board. Unplug the d/w. Disassemble the door, and find the solenoid contacts on the dispenser. Check for continuity. No continuity - replace dispenser. If dispenser is ok, check wiring for continuity. Otherwise it's the board.

Soap dispenser problem?

Check the water supply. Start cycle then open the door after it fills and check water level and spray action. If everything is soaking wet, there is probablyl a pizza pan blocking the soap tray.

My whirlpool dishwasher soap dispenser is apparently not opening during cleaning. I find dirty dishes and clumps of soap in the hopper. Whirlpool quiet partner II

I bet your clumps of soap began with the beginning of the use of a different DW detergent powder.

Try this (trust me) Go buy a box of brand name Dishwasher powder (e.g. Electrosol or Cascade) Use it for two loads of dishes and report your results back here. OK?

E4 fault code

Hi, when a dishwasher goes into overfill mode it usually means that the bottom tray has water in it that operates a float connected to a microswitch. Open the bottom panel and soak up all water then check to make sure the float is down completely.then restart dishwasher. Why it has overfilled is another problem. It could be a faulty pressure switch, pressure switch hose may have a hole in it, water valve may be faulty. Too much soap or wrong soap can cause too many suds and hence overfill. Also if rinse aid is spilt when filling. Or seals leaking. etc.

I also had this problem. Support person couldn't tell me if the pump was supposed to run even when setting the control knob to 'off' (bar before (1)). After draining the pan, the control knob functioned normally. So apparently any power to the unit will run the pump when the overflow pan is filled, no matter the position of the knob.

Dishwasher

If you are you using a liquid soap or packets that will be the main problem. If your unit fills with water circulates the water and drains the water, and also heaters are working then you probally need to change to cascade powder soap. The film on the dishes is soap. The unit has so much build up in it that when it gets to the rinse cycle it is rinsing dishes with soapy water. You need to get 2 medium bowls fill both 2/3 up with white vinager, place one in upper rack and one in lower rack and run unit on longest cycle letting the vinager splash out during wash.do this with no soap and no dishes.Having soft water will allow you to use less soap.

Before taking anything to bits, check you aren't just loading the machine in such a way that something (for us, it's usually a frying pan) is stopping the soap dispenser from springing open all the way. A.
