We have the Samsung LN46B650 - vertical lines just appeared last night with no apprent trauma to the TV. We were told by the repair shop it was either the screen or the circuit board. Does anyone have more information on this and know where we might get either part for less than the repair shop?

The problems u discribing could be either boards the Tuner board or the T-con board. The Tuner board is the board, take in the incomming signal cable. The T-con board is the board sit right in the middle botton of the LCD screen. To regulate and control the ditgital signal go into the LCD screen. If there no trauma to the LCD screen panel.Try change the T-con board first, because it small miner board and it cheaper $50-$75.The Tuner board it a major board and it big and it control all the incomming signal to the tv.This board, will cost u $150-175.Tries websites like Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com to buy either T-con or Tuner boards.Change either of those boards or both.Same problems after this the LCD screen is short in useage and it dead. Not worth repairing,if LCD screen panel is dead, because it limited production and 90% important to the tv.It will, cost the same to replaced as to buy a new tv.If tv require a new LCD screen panel.

Samsung 46" LCD LN46B650 started showing vertical

had a very similar situation with my Phillips 42 in. LCD TV.

Here was my Problem. The Power Supply Board. I opened it up( Warranty was Expired) and found several faulty capacitors on the PSB. Its pretty common. Major Electronic companies were sold faulty capacitors that fail in 2-5 years instead of 10-20 due to a lack of preservatives. It wouldn't surprise me if you have the same problem. TV will work fine for a few years and then just fail completely or slowly deteriorate.

Here are the solutions
1. Have it Repaired
2. Check for faulty caps and if you find some(budged or leaking) you know you have located a problem
Remove the board and replace the whole thing.
3. If you have some soldering skills you can replace the faulty caps.
Caps are very inexpensive, under a dollar in most cases. I replaced 4 for about $5.00

Hope this Helps.
Good Luck

Vertical line on my 46" toshiba lcd tv

The only logical solution for the problems people are having for the toshiba regza's tv's is to get into a class action law suite..., they contiue to sell tv's with defective parts and refuse to help the customer that spent large cash to find out they last if your lucky 2.5 years, they are junk and anyone with one will soon find out./.......
