I have a Singer Disc-o-Matic Sewing Machine. When I tried sewing last Sunday the using the manual mode, the hand wheel moved but the feed dog did not move at all. I did it several times but just the same it did not work. I also tried using it with motor but ended up just the same. What should I do to make it work? Please help!

If it's an older mechanical machine (not computerized), it has probably seized due to old oil that has dried inside the machine. AVOID trying to run the motor until the mechanics free up and run smoothly. Running it could damage the motor.

Remove extension table/accessory box by gentle pulling it away from machine. You are left with just the free arm. In the back of the free arm, lower left corner, you will fine the feed dog lever. Push the leaver to the right to lower the feed dog.Instructions for lowering and raising the feed dog are on page 48 of your owner's manual. Good luck!

SOURCE: singer stylist sewing machine 534 is not stitching

Feed dog drive gear(2) are plastic and are probably stripped. Always replace them in pairs. While you are at it replace both hook drive gears as well. It will run as good as new.

Where is the feed dog adjustment on a Singer Stylist 7258

The Stylist 7258 does not have adjustable feed dogs. To do free-hand stitching (or darning), you need to put the darning plate over the feed dogs. This plate was included in the original accessories with the machine. You can buy a replacement from many sewing machine supply vendors, including https://www.sewingpartsonline.com/darning-plate-singer-087294.aspx .

The manual for the Singer Stylist 7258 is available on the product page: https://www.singer.com/Stylist-7258-Sewing-Machine . The current link to the manual is https://manuals.singer.com/Manuals/RetrievePDF/851 . See page 8, the accessories list, and page 12, using the darning plate.

I hope this helps.

Singer Heavy Duty 4423; I have put in a fresh needle, I have tried re-threading, feed dog lever is in the up position, there is no lint or thread accumulated in the machine, and it is oiled properly. When...

f Fabric Is Not Feeding Properly

If the machine is not feeding fabric when you start sewing, it could be that the presser foot lifter has not been lowered before stepping on the foot controller. Lower the presser foot and resume sewing.
Another reason the machine may not be feeding fabric is that the feed dogs (or feed teeth) are disengaged, so make sure that they are properly engaged for sewing. (Note: If your machine has drop feed, resume normal sewing by moving the drop feed lever to regular sewing mode, then turn the hand wheel toward you one full revolution to re-engage the feed dogs).
The machine may also not feed fabric if the stitch length control is set to "0". Increase the stitch length setting and resume sewing. Reference - Singer .com. Troubleshooting tips.

How to raise the feeder on singer sewing machine 7436

The feed dog position switch is on the back of the Singer Ingenuity 7436, more or less even with the needle bar mechanism. To raise the feed dogs, make sure that the presser foot is up and the needle is at the highest point. Remove the accessory box by pulling it to the left of the machine. Turn the sewing machine around so that you can see the feed dog control lever. Push the lever down (towards the sewing table) and then move it to the right (away from the motor/control section of the machine). Turn the sewing machine around (to the normal sewing orientation) and turn the hand wheel counter-clockwise (towards you), until you hear or see the feed dogs click into the correct position. Note: make sure that the bobbin winder shaft is to the left (not the far-left or right positions). If this doesn't work, then there is probably a broken part in the feed dog or its lift mechanism. The machine needs to be repaired.

The directions to raise the feed dogs are shown in the manual on page 12. The current link to the manual is https://www.singer.com/sites/default/files/product_manual/SINGER%207436%20INGENUITY%E2%84%A2%20Sewing%20Machine.pdf . Many Singer manuals are available from the support page: https://www.singer.com/support . You don't need to enter the full model number to find the manuals. Include any leading letters and some of the numbers in the model number. Leave off any letters at the end of the model number.

I hope this helps.

My Singer Quantum 9960 doesn't seem to be moving the material when I am sewing. It sews in the same spot and then the material gets stuck.

Am guessing you've already verified the feed dogs are in the raised position. The other thing to check is the presser foot pressure. If you are sewing lighter weight fabric, you may need to increase the pressure to make more contact with the feed dogs, or lighten the pressure when sewing thick fabric. Something else that may help is using a roller, teflon, or walking foot.

On the other hand, if the feed dogs are not moving like they should even if you have the stitch length higher, your machine may need service. Be sure you've cleaned the feed dogs of any accumulation of lint, dirt, debris. Of course, if you have used the machine a lot, the feed dog points do wear so they may not be gripping like new.

Singer 4423 feed dogs are not working properly. Tested and verified that this happens without any thread in the machine. The dogs are not lowered. We've cleaned it and still no luck.

Now, I'm assuming that you pushed the feed dog lever in the back to the left successfully. If you couldn't make it move, try pushing the lever down and then to the left. You don't see any difference when that happens, because the feed dogs are actually ALWAYS down -- during ordinary sewing, they rise up to grab and push the fabric, then go down again. Turn the hand wheel (ALWAYS towards you) while looking at the feed dogs and see if they rise up during the cycle. I'll bet you DID lower them, but didn't realize it. What is actually does when you lower them is disengage the mechanism that makes them go up and down.

One more thing -- to set them in the up position again, you have to set the lever, then turn the hand wheel several times -- sometimes as much as five cycles -- and then you'll hear a click. That is true of ALL sewing/embroidery machines.

Can't get the feed dogs to come up on my Singer Futura XL 400 sewing machine

Hi Susan,

Happy New Year!

try engaging the "Feed Dog Switch" and turn the flywheel on the side with a gentle back n fourth motion. Sometimes they get stuck with all the fuzz and buildup in the switch mechanisms from use. If that doesn't get you going, a visit to the authorized repair shop might be needed.

My feed dog does not go up and the machine is new simple model 3116. what can i do?

You may try advancing the hand wheel by hand and see if that will bring the feed dogs back up.

The hand wheel just stays put while the inside of the machine seems to be moving, like something is slipping.

Move the bobbin winder to LEFT. Sounds to me like you didn't re-set after winding a bobbin.
Hope this helps!

Feed dog & beeping

To make the feed dogs come up ... turn your wheel about 2 times all the way and they will come up (this is after you switch the feed dog switch to the up position)
