There are light blue dots on the center of my Sony television and there seems to be more and more dots each day with a light blue sploch on the bottom of the screen. The light signalling me to change the lamp is not on. The tellevision is six years old.

unplug your tv for one minute from outlet... Plug again and turn on. Be sure that no speakers near to set.

model # says its a 42" sounds like a rear projection lcd tv not a flat panel its your light engine sony will replace it free if its less than 5 years old

This is a defective Light Engine Assembly. The average cost to replace it is around $650.00

Howdy,
Need more information but if is a DLP and not Panasonic I would suspect the Lite Engine. Most companies have extened their Warranty for this part. Contact an Authorized Service Center and you may qualify or cantact Factory yourself. Please have Brand and Model Number on hand. If it is the Lite Engine it will be costly $750 to $1200 just for the part.

Blue dots and streaks

Blue streaks might have been just your video connection and problem with signaling. But, blue dots is faulty light engine, aka "optical block". The engine in this could be a defective LCD array. Very expensive, a optical block is about $850. Hope it's still under warranty. You could get a rebuilt one, possibly. Need service adjustment too. Bad problem that Sony has with these kinds of sets.

I have dark sploches on the screen but theyseem to be on the inside how can i clean that , also i replaced the bulb with a bulb i picked up at frys and i dont seem to have as good of a pic?

Its not the Lamp its the light tunnel or Light engine if still under warranty get light engine replaced now Sony has a Major problem with Light engines Call UED for Price of rebuilt Light Engine 1-800-648-6657 they should have everything that you will need there. You can try cleaning off optical lense on light engine if no improvement ,light engine .

It seems to be that the red chip is melting which means you'll need to replace the whole light engine unless you can find the chip by itself

Yes, I do. It needs a new light engine. Very costly repair. However, Sony has extended the warranty on many of these LED projector sets. You need to call a local Sony authorized service center and see if your model is covered. Otherwise this repair could run over a thousand bucks.

HDTV is getting blue dots and the right side has turned blue

These issues are problems in the light engine (optics block)
the dots are called "starfield" and the geometric is "roadmap"
replacing the light engine will fix the issue. for awhile, sony was extending the warrany on the engine for these issues only, but that may have expired.

Sony TVs has an Optical Block issue. If there is an issue with the optical block, then there will be green, blue patches or tint on the TV display. Try resetting the TV to the factory settings and try Power resetting the TV. Turn Off the TV and remove the power plug from the wall outlet for 1 minute and reconnect it and check the operation. If the issue still persists, then TV may require service. You can contact the Customer relations team at 1-239-768-7547 and ask for the recall issue Sony had repaired free of cost for such issues previously. Hence, contact the customer relations.
