My 7-8 year old top load FP washer is slow to fill with water or recirculate water. The water trickles in. Is there a screen or valve that needs cleaning or replacing?

Remove the cold water hose and check the screens for debris and clean. Also look inside the water inlet valve where the hose connects there should be a screen in there remove and clean. Clean out filter in the fill valve by removing the inlet hose at the machine end and pulling out and cleaning the plastic filter

Check the hose at the end where it connects to the washer (the inlet valve unit). There may be a screen there also that needs to be replaced or cleaned. If not then the hot water solenoid valve is probably gunked up with the same type of stuff you found in the filter screen. You may be able to clean it enough to get it to work but replacing it is just as easy and not very expensive. (Even cheaper see if you can salvage one from an old machine at the dump or that someone has left at the curb--the units are very standard across many manufacturers in the tU.S.) Both the hot and cold water valves are in the same unit.

where your water lines connect there is a sc reen inside and if it is clogged with rust lime and or mineral deposit. it needs cleaned out. you can pull it out with a ice pick or something pointy. Check your screen first and if that doesn't fix ya then yes replace the unit.

For low water volume - or "Trickling" effect...

1. Turn off the water supply to both hoses.
2. Remove hoses (one at a time so you don't get them confused)
3. On the washer side - look for a removeable screen inside where you just removed the hose.
4. Using a small screwdriver - pop out the screen and reverse-flush it/clean it. It will likely be full of sediment and calcium deposits from your pipes.
5. Replace the inlet screens.
6. Re-fit the hose to the machine.
7. Turn on water supply valves.
8. re-try.

Need a model # to get exact part you will need at rinse most washer go straight cold so I would say water inlet valve if humming sound is present

It sounds like you have some buildup in the cold water valve screen. Where the hose connects to the washer there should be a screen inside the valve. Remove the cold water hose from the washer and clear any debri on the valve screen.

If this doesn't fix the slow cold water flow then you will have to replace the whole water valve assembly. The water valve is the piece that the hoses connect too and supply water to the washer.

There are filter screens where the supply hoses connect to the washer. On some brands there is a screen where the hose connects to the water valve at the wall. The screen is probably full of sediment.

if screen inside fill valve is clean and plenty of hot water to valve replace valve

I had the same problem with my Kenmore Model 11022956102 washer and first thought that it was the water inlet valves. So I replaced them, but found the problem continued. After about 25 seconds into the rinse cycle the water only trickled in. Checking with a voltage meter I found that I lost 120V at terminals 3 & 5 on the washer temperature controller after 25 seconds. Even though the wiring diagram doesn't show the water temperature control board, since it's full of resisters and capacitors, I figured it was the most likely problem. So I ordered a remanufactured board from Parts Simple (#3407125), received and installed it. The 17 year old washer is now working fine once again.
