Was not pumping correctly so I did the filter clean out and it was full of junk - but it still won't go throught thspin cycle - will do everything else on all cycles except spin - drains fine now - any thoughts - about 4 years old

Does the wash tub spin freely by hand? If the tub does NOT spin by hand, the rear tub bearings may have seized up or something could be bound around the spin basket shaft (I've seen this one before). Let's hope it's not this problem.
If the tub DOES spin...have you checked to see if the drive belt was still on (sorry...I have to ask that question. I'm not trying to insult your intelligence here, but I have seen this one too).
Do you have the tech sheet that came with the washer? It's located behind the lower panel under the door, or taped to one of the interior cabinet walls. This tech sheet will explain to how to troubleshoot the symptoms you are describing. I suspect you may have a bad motor control unit (MCU) or bad motor. There are several voltage and resistance readings that you will need to perform in order to isolate the problem. It's odd, however, that diagnostics does not pick up any error codes. Normally, an error code will be generated if there was a no spin problem. It just doesn't make sense...Please post back and let me know.
No...you're pretty much on the mark. A no spin problem is usually attributed to one of the two components you mentioned. More commonly, the MCU is the culprit, but you need to take resistance checks of the motor windings at the connector to rule it out. If you are savvy with electronics, purchasing a simple mutli-meter will help. Let me know what you decide to do.
Caroline T,
If you are experiencing the same symptoms, please look through the solution I posted to see if you can diagnose the problem. There is a tech sheet inside the washer that has all the test points, voltage and resistance readings. You will need to perform a resistance check on the motor windings and voltage checks on the MCU terminals. Generally, the MCU fails before the motor does. Check your exit hose spigot, it may be clogged. This is if your filter is all clean. There should be air for passage in the standpipe behind. Your hose should not fit airtight into the standpipe and neither too deep into it. Snaking out your standpipe would be good too. If all these don't solve problem, check your pump.
Rate me pl.....if helped. Click on 'thanks for trying' if not helped, your prob will be back for someone else to solve.
I had the same problem. Everything worked except it would not spin at any speed in any cycle. No error codes. Replaced the Motor Control Unit(MCU) and it runs again. I did check the motor winding resistances with my multimeter first to make sure the motor wasn't toast though.
Hi
This issue usually occurs due to kinked drain pipe, clogged
drain filter or drain pump. First make sure that the drain is not clogged and
remove clogs if present. If no visible lint is present then remove the lower
front access panel to check the drain filter and drain pump for any clogs,
you'll need to clean the drain filter and drain pump completely. Hope this
helps... Please post back for any further assistance.

No it does not tumble at all - ran it throught the diagnostics test I found online . Starts at code C01 and goes through - c08 - did not tumble at any time - I checked all the wiring harnesses and they seem to be secure

Yes it will spin by hand with the belt attached - I actually turned it by pulling on the belt - when I did the diagnostic test I expected an error code when it go to the tumble portion but it did not give one. It did liste on the Tech sheet as MCU or drive motor as possible causes if it did not tumble - I don't have the tools/expertise to test wether isignal is getting to the MCU and not the motor or it is sending the signal to the motor and not turning on but thats kind of where I was - motor or MCU unless there is anything else to check
Replaced the MCU and back in business - did have to have a service call to tell me which component was not working because I don't have the "meters" to do the reads. They wanted $325 to replace it - The part was $155 shipped so it worked out - thanks for the help
I have the same problem, no error codes, drum spins easily by hand, fills with water and drains, but NO spin. It appears from posts that a MCU will be needed.
3 year old 1500$ washer won't spin !!!! man am i sick of over priced ****. If a 1500$ washer doesn't last 3 years is it any wonder our whole ******* world is going to the dogs?
Does the wash tub tumble at all? Or, is it only during the spin cycle? Please post back and let me know, so I can give you the proper advice.
Am I to understand that the tub will tumble during the wash cycle, but doesn't spin when it gets to the spin cycle? Need a little more elaboration on the symptoms, please
My 5 year old front loader is doing the same thing, not spinning,I am so sick and tired of spending this kind of money on a piece of junk.Whirlpool I will never buy that brand of junk again!
Same problem won't spin,no error codes,I think Whirlpool is a hunk of junk!
