Vizio p42 type sp42a nov 2004 hd tv

When trying to turn set on power button is amber and turns to green Screen will not do anything POWER INDICATING LIGHT GOES FROM AMBER TO GREEN WHEN TURNED ON. AUDIO YES, BUT NO SCREEN- TRIED WITH A DVD SIGNAL- STILL NOTHING, NOT EVEN MENU SELECTION SHOWS ON THE SCREEN. BOUGHT SET IN LATE 2006 AND WORKED FINE UNTIL MAY 11, 2008

    the tv just turns on to dark blue screen. input to other AV1 or AV2 or TV etc. nothing works. it's hooked up to my dvd/cd player and the tv doesn't play my dvd or cds either. no noise at all. the power turns on from amber to green, but no go. the remote also does not work. Tried unplugging, unhooking and plugging, hooking all back nothing works. Changed remote battery still doesn't work.

The sp42a is a plasma tv not an lcd. check the psb voltages first then move onto the ymain and buffers.

Vizio P42 HDTV no picture

Try first unplugging power cable for thirty minutes, then plug back, this will drain power from TV completely and will reset it.

See if it works.

VIZIO P42hd PS42a plasma Picture has two vertical lines (one red/orange, one blue) going down the right-hand side of the screen. Lines are clearly visible

The panel is almost certainly bad. The only fix for this is to replace the whole panel which would cost more than the whole TV.

I had the same problem. I bought the TV with the same symptoms and couldn't find a solution. So just on a hunch I tried different button combinations on the front of the TV while I turned the main power switch on in the rear. One I got to the Channel up and Channel down the TV came to life and works great. So just hold those 2 buttons down at the same time while you flip the switch on the back. Hold them for about 10 seconds and then you should be good to go.

had the same problem had the main powerboard replaced they were out of stock and had to send mine in and vizio referbed it I was told it was a common problem with this unit

if you have the same problem i do, you might be able to get longer life like i did, i disconnected the side speakers and i got one extar weeks out of it. you will have to turn the breaker in the back off and on.
