I have a toshiba laptop with a pioneer DVR K17F. The DVD has suddenly disapeared. It does not show in my computer and there are no upper and lower filters. When I put a dvd into the player it spins around. I have tried everything I can find on the helpsites but most tell me to use the backup dvd - the player doesn't work!

Click start control panel administration tools computer management device manager scroll down cd-dvd rom drives you might see a yellow question /exclamation mark ? ! or a red X right click to update driver

you might have to physically unplug the leads for this cd/dvd restart your computer then plug them back this should activate the found new hardware wizard

if this does not fix the problem it might be a registry problem if you cant see your disk drive in windows explorer


Close all open programs

Click on Start, Run, and type regedit and press Enter
Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

SYSTEM

CurrentControlSet

Control

Class

{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

Upper Filters

Lower Filters

Upper Filters.bak

Lower Filters.bak

If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete

After deleting the keys, close the registry editor
Reboot your computer
Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.

Please reinstall the drivers for the both of the problems,if you dont have any cd then plz visit the manufacture website and download the drivers, after installing the problem is not solved then plz try with another drive,if the problem persist then try by reinstalling the OS

this shows that your DVD RW is out of order and the only solution is to replace it with the new one.

Hi, according to what I understand the unit works for some situations especially but you cannot visualize the content, in this case the problem that you one presents shows off to be Cd-DVD's unit that this trumping, if the equipment this one even in guarantee, you must come to an CAS or Center of Authorized Service, in order that they diagnose and replace the unit

Try this and see if it will help you  Here is what you do  Click on start and then go to run type in regedt32 For Vista Click start and search for regedt32 and click on it 
Go to the following HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}  
Delete the upper and lower Filter or witch is available close window and restart the PC it will work  
This is common on the Acer, HP,Toshiba etc,etc

it's look like you have problem with dvd isnot showing in windows explorer / dvd driver.

basicly just update (delete some key) the windows registry and restart. ussually this work ok.

Yes, you need to find your local ASP. You can ship it in to us too if you'd like. We're an authorized ASP. This is a VERY common problem in the A205 series. Let me know if you require any more details. By the way, mailing the laptop in might take some time, I'd check with your local ASP (hopefully there's one local to you) and have them order it if possible without having you leaving the laptop there (some ASP's will be ok with that option, we are at times). You will need to provide your laptop part number (starts with PSAxx-xxxx) & serial number and machine has to be under warranty.

advice: extended warranty ;) but i think it's too late now.

Hi How old is this laptop? If it is brand new, then you should be able to send it back to acer. Its the problem with drive or mainboard not with the drivers.
