When dishwasher drains the water not all the water is drained. Some stays standing at the bottom and starts getting an odor after awhile. This is a replacement dishwasher in a 35 year old house. How important is the air release part in the draining situation? I was told by someone that the newer dishwashers have the air release part which was not hooked up on this dishwasher when installed last year. Are there some other possibilities of things that can be checked. Model Number is DU 1055XTSD D3 Thanks

It's most likely that the filters in your dishwasher are blocked, the best way to clean them is to remove the filters from the bottom of the dishwasher, place them in the racks and run through the hottest wash cycle. It also helps to have a dishwasher cleaner inside the machine at the same time, these are available from most places that sell the dishwasher powder.

SOURCE: Water Will not Drain

It could be cause the water level switch. The level switch is usually a diaphragm device with a small clear tube attached between the switch and the bottom of the washer's outer tub. I am not familiar with your machine, but if you will open the rear panel you will find it easily. Clear tube from any obstruction. Good luck !

SOURCE: Dishwasher will not drain

Hello Tom,
Glad that you were able to find something out of place in the check valve ( like the gasket) which in turn was restricting the ball in that check valve from being in the right position. I'd be willing to bet that your problem is solved..
Regards,
Rick

Where to I check to see where filter is on dishwasher

I do not think there is a replaceable filter on this dishwasher - it is supposed to be self cleaning. If you put some bleach in the dishwasher that should knock any smell out of any standing water. If the odor remains, perhaps it is another source? Something behind or under? I once had a terrible odor from the fridge and cleaned the entire thing out with bleach water - still remained. Finally found a dead mouse behind fridge...

Older Kitchenaid Dishwasher doesn't fully drain and smells

Hi Jay. Remove the lower front panel and you will see the drain hose. On the machine end of the drain hose is a small drain pump. Disconnect the hose and the pump and you will most likely find a partial blockage in the form of a piece of glass or something preventing a total drain.

Dishwasher has odor

Check the drain line under the kitchen sink. The drain line is supposed to run from the bottom of the cabinet, and run as high in the cabinet as you can get, (up to the bottom of the counter top) then connect the drain. This is called an air gap, and helps keep a little water in the drain line, which will prevent sewer gases from entering your dishwasher.

Bosch dishwasher will not drain - causing moldy odor

Hello Mimhoff it depends on how much water is down there. The sump area always has a little water in it to prevent the circulation pump seals from sticking. Usually around 1 to 2 inches. If there is more than that, check the slots at the bottom of the sump on the left side for being clogged and check the end of the drain hose to make sure it is clear. If you are getting a moldy/odor from the dishwasher, try running Dishwasher Magic or Tang thru the dishwasher. This will remove any build up of food or detergent from the dishwasher. If you are running the dishwasher every few days and just scraping your dishes, then either leave the door ajar or run the rinse & hold cycle to help keep the odor down. Bosch doesn't reccommend running bleach thru the dishwasher as this can cause damage to the rubber seals. However 2 tablespoons of bleach once a year won't hurt.

Dishwasher Odor

I would disconnect the drain hose from the sink trap and drain the water out into a pot -- just to make sure there's nothing in the hose that can't get out. Check the sink trap too to make sure it's not holding something. Run an empty dishwasher using TANG instead of dishwasher detegerent.
