I'm back. In case you don't have, download from this official link the capture Perfect software user manual. At page 24 is your answer about file naming. You have to enable the schema settings, otherwise you will get these 4 digits. My suggestion is to set date for schema. Of course this is up to you.

On an Epson printer I cannot scan because I always get a message that says "file cannot be created please use another prefix for file name". How can this be fixed?

Read through the discussion at the internet link below, and it may help you fix this.

https://archivehistory.jeksite.org/chapters/scan_part5.htm

Quoting:

Other> Save settings: saves the settings and preview when Epson Scan is closed and is usually convenient.

The button for File Save Settings to the right of the Scan button determines the folder, file name, and format for the output files. The Location section of the dialog box specifies where the output files are written. I normally select the Other button and then Browse to identify the folder.
The output file names are limited to a prefix and number. The prefix can be set to identify the image. The added number is usually not needed and can be removed by renaming the file after it has been created.
The field for Image Format includes the usual TIFF and JPEG. Note that plain TIFF should normally be used for archival scanning, not the Multi-TIFF option.
The checkbox for "Show this dialog box before next scan" can be checked to give the opportunity to set the output file name for each scan. As noted above, the prefix part of the name can identify the image.
The checkbox for "Open image folder after scanning" can be checked to provide the opportunity to examine the final image and rename the output file.

How do I name and save a scanned document in HP C4480 (Windows)?

Hello, Robert -

I hope I am correct in assuming you have the user's manual for the HP Photosmart C4480. Just in case you do not, this is the link to the web page where you can download and save the manual (PDF format - Adobe Acrobat Reader software needed, free):
https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-photosmart-c4400-all-in-one-printer-series/3655558/model/3655559/manuals

After downloading the PDF document save it (Save As) to your Documents folder and give it a name you can find again easily - maybe: HP Photosmart C4480 Manual.

How to save a PDF file:
- With your computer, open the PDF document in Adobe Acrobat Reader
- Move cursor to upper left corner of page and left click or tap on FILE
- In drop down File menu, move cursor to SAVE AS and left click or tap on it
- In Save As window which opens, move cursor down to CHOOSE A DIFFERENT FOLDER and left click on tap on that "button"
- In window which opens choose DOCUMENTS in the Documents Library
- In File name box near the bottom of the Documents Library pop-up window, enter the name with which you want to save the PDF document, Example: HP Photosmart C4480 Manual
- Left click or tap on the SAVE button

Note: The steps above will be similar to what you will need to do after scanning any document.

The instructions for scanning start in Chapter 10, Page 64 (Image 304 of the PDF format manual).

Open the scanner through your computer. It is easier to save the document later by operating the scan functions through your computer.

With the scan application open on your computer run the scan process. After scanning the document, you will need to save it. First, you will need to determine the format in which you want to save the scanned document: PDF, JPEG (photo image), GIF, etc.

After choosing the format for the scanned document, in the proper file name box, enter the name for the document you wish to save.
Examples:
Correspondence 2018-Feb-18 Brother
Photo Brothers-Family 2018-Feb-18
Deed of Sale 2018-Feb-18 House

Get the idea? I like to give a date to my scanned document names to help identify them better.

Once you have entered the file name, click or tap on the SAVE button.

Note: I always like to open the saved document from the Documents folder to verify it was saved. Plus, my scanner attaches a number at the end of every file name. After closing out the saved document and closing the scanner winder, I go back and Edit the file name, removing the added number (digits) from the saved file name.

The video you will find with this link:
http://esvideo.es/video/watch/ult2ORqN1eGRiLQ=
is for those who use Windows 8 or 10. Even if you use another Windows operating system (I use Windows 7), you can probably figure out what to do. The video goes through the scanning and saving process step-by-step.

Best wishes.

Canon DR-5010C Scanner How to get rid of the 4 zero's at the end of the naming convention?

The 4 zeroes at the end are added on purpose. If you are scanning a set of documents, say 11 pages, to maintain the sequence the scanner scans them as abcd0001, abcd0002 till abcd 0011. Without 4 zeroes, the first file will be abcd1, abcd2....abcd10, abcd11. Now in the Computer the sequence will be abcd1, abcd10, abcd11, abcd2 till abcd9, altering the sequence. If you are scanning into PDF, the scanned images will be added automatically maintaining sequence.

Consent ui for administrative applications has stopped working

Consent.exe is part of Windows Vista - it's the User Access Control (UAC) executable.

There is a known malware version of this executable. Do a search on your hard drive (within Windows Vista, obviously) for all consent.exe files - make sure you include hidden and system files in the search criteria.

Once the search has completed, right-click on each file and check the file properties.

There is a MalWare version of Consent.exe
Right Click ALL of the ones you find and look for
Microsoft details in Properties

  • File Names Used: 3
  • Paths Used: 8
  • Common File Name: CONSENT.EXE
  • Common Path: ?:\windows.old\windows\winsxs\x86_microsoft-windows-lua_31bf3856ad364e35_6.0.5728.16387_none_ef1113b929fe5371\
  • Vendor Information: Microsoft Corporation
  • Product Information: Consent UI for administrative applications
  • Version Information: 6.0.5728.16387
  • CONSENT.EXE may use 3 or more path and file names, these are the most common:
  • 1 :%windir%\winsxs\backup\X86_MICROSOFT-WINDOWS-LUA_31....A1C2
  • 2 :?:\windows.old\windows\winsxs\backup\X86_MICROSOFT-WINDOWS-LUA_31....A1C2
  • 3 :?:\X86_MICROSOFT-WINDOWS-LUA_31....A1C2

  • If you find a consent.exe anywhere else in the search results, I'd delete that file. Run a thorough anti-virus scan of the harddrive. I'd also download spybot and run it as well as downloading Ad-Aware from Lavasoft and using it to scan as well.

Spybot and Ad-Aware can find different spyware/malware, which is why I recommend running both products.

Once you've done all that, reboot the system. That should fix the problem.

    Epson stylus photo RX580

When you see the File Save Settings window, you need to select the location, name, and format of the scanned image file you want to save.
    1. In the File Save Settings window, specify the file folder in which you want to save your scanned image. Click the My Documents or My Pictures radio button (Windows XP or earlier versions), or the Documents or Pictures radio button (Windows Vista or Mac OS X).
    2. If you want to select another folder, click Other, then click Browse (Windows) or Choose (Mac OS X) and select the folder. If you want to save your image on the desktop, simply click Other.
    3. Specify a file name prefix with an alphanumeric character string. A 3-digit number is automatically added to the file name, but you can change the Start Number if you like. If you are scanning multiple images at once, each image will receive a different 3-digit number.
    4. Select a file format. Depending on the format, the Options button may be available for making detailed settings.
    5. The check boxes at the bottom of the window give you these options:
    • Overwrite any files with the same name: Select this option if you want to reuse the selected file name and location and overwrite previous files with the same names.
    • Show this dialog box before next scan: Select this option if you want the File Save Settings window to appear automatically before you scan in Home or Professional Mode. If you deselect it, you must click the File Save Settings button to open the window.
    • Open image folder after scanning: Select this option if you want Windows Explorer or the Macintosh Finder to automatically open to the folder where your scanned image is saved when Epson Scan finishes scanning.
    6. Do one of the following, depending on the currently selected scan mode:
    • Home or Professional Mode: Click OK. Epson Scan starts scanning.
    • Full Auto Mode: Click OK, click OK again, then click Scan. Epson Scan starts scanning.
The scanned image is saved in the file and location you chose.
