How to replace the trap for kitchen sink..there is a leak in the kitchen trap

  • Lucy Gibson
    Lucy Gibson Sep 13, 2017

I'm sorry to hear about your leaking p-trap under your kitchen sink. I think something similar is happening to my master-bathroom sink. My husband and I are gone a lot so we wouldn't be able to fix something like this on our own. We're considering hiring a professional plumber. http://www.allclearplumbinganddrains.com...

What makes a kitchen sink stink?

There can be several reasons behind stinking of the Kitchen Sinks. Here is the list of them and the tips to resolve them:
  • A rotting food smell from junk stuck in the garbage disposal or drain: Use vinegar and baking soda, run ice cubes through the disposal, put lemon or orange slices in the disposal.
  • Sewer smell from gas leaking in through the drain trap :High pressure can force its way through the water in the trap and low pressure can siphon out the water from the trap.
  • Bacteria: One reason for a smelly kitchen sink can be the presence of bacteria in the drain pipe. To get rid of the bacteria you can either use baking soda, vinegar, or a commercial drain cleaner or bleach.
Even if you do not get rid of stinky smell then you can contact any professional plumber online for help.

Odour from only kitchen sink No food trapped plumber says pipes &vent syst in proper work order plumb is stumped 6 mos ago same thing happen pipes & trap under sink were changed house is 3 yr old

Presuming that the proper traps are installed, your issue may be related to flow. Sometimes, a run that is too steep causes so much flow that the water gets removed from the sink p-trap and will remove water from there.

To test, pour a some water down the sink, the next time that you smell sewer gasses. If that stops it, investigate why the water is being drawn away. You might consider an additional air vent, as a diagnostic tool.

How can I naturally without harsh chemicals get rid of gnats in my house? They are covering my front door, windows and floor?

Use the hanging fly traps they are just sticky just keep it out of your hair. Get rid of trash clean kitchen sink and keep dry. You can put a little dish detergent in container with water when they try to land on water the oil traps them. And vacuum a lot. You can knock them out in a week. Put the traps in the kitchen over sink and leave sink light on at night.

How do I fix my drain?

Presumably you are mentioning a kitchen or bathroom sink drain?
Underneath most sinks there is a "P" trap leading to the drain line which goes out to the outside sewer system. Occasionally the drain line is simply loose and needs tightening by hand or lightly with a wrench. (do not over tighten) If not, loosen the fitting(s), removing the drain line and replacing the seals is in order. These seals can be purchased at most hardware stores. Be sure to have a small bucket handy to catch water residue in the "P" trap once removed and, be sure to clean and wipe all ends of the pipe prior to reassembly so the seals will work properly.

Clogged bathroom sink

Try removing the **** Trap under the sink, there are two nuts one on each side. put a pan under the sink to catch the waste water in the trap first. ext loosen the nuts with a pair of channel locks or a pipe wrench turn the nuts counter clock wise direction till the nuts are loose slide the trap down and empty the contents of the trap into the bucket. Use rubber gloves so you don't get sick from germs. If the **** trap is plugged use a coat hanger to push threw the trap to get whatever is plugging it out. Rinse in a different sink, If it has the rubber gaskets I would recommend replacing the gaskets. Install in reverse. Do not over tighten the nuts or you will have to replace the parts. the trap looks like 2 opposing J .

How To Connect Sinks Drain

No matter what type of sink you purchase, the drain and water-supply connections are generally installed in the same way. Hand-tighten a female adapter onto the drain stub-out at the wall. Slide slip nuts onto the drain arm and the sink's tailpiece. Fit a P-trap in place and tighten the slip nuts by hand. Connect flexible water-supply tubes onto the faucet's tailpieces, and route them to the shut-off valves. Tighten coupling nuts with an adjustable wrench. Remove the faucet aerator, turn on the water, check for leaks at the shutoff valves, and then turn on the faucet to check for leaks in the drain assembly. Replace the aerator.
