If the smoke is white is burning coolant, and might be a bad cylinder head gasket. If smoke is blue, is burning oil. This might be valve guide or something else. If the smoke is coming from engine compartment, fluids might spill over exhaust manifold. Hope this will help to narrow the problem.

Loud knocking in engine with white smoke

Hi Tracey P, sounds like you have a TERMINAL problem! If this noise and smoke symptoms came on suddenly while driving, and your performance is impaired, then I would suggest you might well have lost one cylinder dur to component failure. That might be a piston breaking up, a valve dropping or perhaps a combination of the two. I would seriously suggest that it's time to remove the cylinder head/s to check what exactly the problem is.

Hello there,when i starts z car in z morning,blue smoke comes out.Is that normal please.And z car miss fires if i accelerate suddenly.I have changed z distributor,spark plugs n wires.Z car is of carburator...

The blue smoke is OIL, coming from bad seals in the valves. It drains into the cylinders overnight and when you start the car it burns the oil off. This is probably fouling your plugs and if backfiring will fould the carburator. The miss firing is due to the age and most likely the timing of your engine, along with fouled plugs and carb.

My ford escort 1998, started smoking badly from

Hi:
If the smoke is whitish in color, and just started doing this suddenly, then most likely you have a leaking head gasket, and it is letting coolant get in your cylinder, and possibly oil into your coolant. I am not sure about the noises you are hearing, but you should have your car checked out as soon as possible, or your engine could be permanently damaged, or it could be already.

My 1996 saab 9000 cs has started smoking badly upon warm up. After the car is warmed up it does not smoke at all. The smoke seems to be oil and I am losing some oil. It started doing this all of a sudden.

the valve seals in the motor are worn and letting oil seep into the cylinders when the vehicle sets overnight. when you start it in the morning it burns off the collected oil.. have oil seals replaced if you are parcial to your car....

Came to a stop and all of a sudden the car started to hesitate and when we parked it blue grayish smoke started coming out of the back end.

Blue smoke, if its coming from your exhaust pipe, is from oil burning. Most likely from the engine, so check the oil. A broken piston ring, or bad valve guides can do this.
