How can i connect my Gemini Turntable which has a ground cable connection to a device that does not have a ground cable connection?

The preferred approach is to run a ground cable from the turntable to the ground post on the back of your preamp or receiver. This keeps buzz and hum out of the audio signal. If your receiver doesn't have a ground post, you'll have to connect the ground to one of the RCA signal jacks. In both cases the question is, when you have two grounds, which one to connect? You'll have to determine this by trial and error. My guess is you'll get the best results by connecting both, so start with this arrangement. Connect the turntable's audio cables from its RCA jacks to the receiver, select the phono input, and turn it on (with the volume turned down). Turn up the volume until you can hear hum or buzz. Then connect a piece of wire to the ground post on the turntable panel and touch the other end to the ground post on the receiver or to the RCA jack/plug's outer ring. If the hum/buzz goes away, you're good to go and can connect the wire permanently. If not, try the ground cables individually and use the connection that works best.

You can attach a wire to the metal part of the turntable and screw the other end to ground screw on the amp.

Hi, Yes your turntable needs to be grounded to get rid of hum. Make sure that your turntable, preamp and amp are all powered from the same point. Most preamps do not have a grounding connection on them and when they do it is normally on the same side that the rcas from your turntable connect too. What is the make and model of your preamp. I will check it out. To earth to a preamp without a grounding connection do this. Take the grounding cable from your TT and slip it in the side of one of the 2 rca connections as you plug them in. That will ground your TT to the amp. If it doesn't then swap the ground lead to the other rca. Cheers John. Styluscity.com.

You don't need the original ground wire for Technics SL-BD20D turntable,
any plain cable can be used for this purpose...
you should connect turntable to your pre amp,should be a "phone" input at the back...
here are some suggestions for grounding....

Plug in a surge protector to the outlet, and then plug all the components into that surge protector

Connect a ground plug to the surge protector and then plug the ground plug into the main outlet. A ground plug is available at any hardware store, and turns a three prong connection into a two prong. Ground plugs help eliminate 60 cycle hum.

Connect the ground wire from your turntable to the ground wire connection on the receiver. If this doesn't work, looking on the back there should be a grounding point,

Unplug your receiver.. Split a wire and attach one of the splits to the receiver where you will see the text, "ground" or something similar. Attach the other end to something metal such as a pipe that goes into the ground. Secure with electrical tape. Plug in.
connect the ground wire to a screw on the electrical outlet.

See if you can attach the ground wire to a point on the chassis of the device you are connecting it to.

Typically, one would run a single wire, 18 or 20 gauge will work, from the turntable motor housing to the amp chassis. I know the older amps have a ground screw on them,, but any chassis screw will work.

Well, number #1 - it's a Gemini. So, you can rest assured that the craftsmanship is not the greatest. It's hit or miss with this company.

#2, if the issue you are having is a ground issue, then perhaps the internal ground wire might have come loose, or there is some sort of interference somewhere. Do you have your turntables next to anything that draws alot of power? Such as air conditioner, or a microwave, fridge, etc? Also, connecting to the same power outlet with something that draws alot of electricity might have the same effect. Try a different power outlet. One that is not being used if possible. If you use a power strip or extension cord, try a new one.

There could be many issues which cause feedback.. the main thing is to determine what is NOT causing the problem. So, you know it's NOT your mixer. Great. Now, move on to the next step. Check your cartridges also. Try swapping them out, see if the problem follows. Many times the tonearms aren't grounded properly. There are 5 wires coming out from the tonearm - L+, L-, R+, R- and GROUND. If the ground came off during transport, or movement, this might be your problem.

I don't think the problem is the actual stylus (needle), it sounds like the magnetic cartridge has become faulty in some way (it does happen). My advice is try another cartridge and stylus (borrow if you can). If the audio stays the same then it MAY be the wiring in the arm going through the plinth (deck) and these wires terminate to pins or a small pcb board in the turntable where the phono cables and arm wires are connected. There may be a bad connection inside.
Also, make sure your tonearm counterweight and anti-skate are set up properly as well as this can have an effect on audio.
I hope this helps as I have been into audio since I was a kid!
