Internet Explorer My Internet Explorer will not connect to the Internet. I can get on the Internet through AOL but when I try to connect to Comcast through the Internet Explorer it will not connect. My cable is working (I am on AOL posting this message.) My husbands computer connects to Comcast through the Internet Explorer without any problem or hesitation. My homepage on Internet Explorer is http://www.comcast.net. What it says is homepage found, waiting for reply. It also says it is connecting but isn't. Is there a simple solution? I tried re-loading Internet Explorer but MS says it is fine. Help?

Thanks Jeff. There was nothing in dial up and I clicked the automatically detect settings. It did not work. So here is a little more history that may help. We had 3 months of McAfee for free when we bought the computers. (we bought one for my hubby and one for me). We also get Free McAfee with Comcast. The 3 months were up and we kept getting popups to go to McAfee and pay for it. We didn't need to since we had it under Comcast so I tried to uninstall McAfee and that is when it happened. I restored my system to an earlier time hoping that it would help. McAfee came back but not IE. :( Did I totally mess it up?

Jeff, I also want to add something else. In the top address bar when I open up IE it says this: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=7... I have tried to change it to comcast.net but it stays locked on this. It says the same thing in the very top of the page next to the IE icon. Dont know if that helps.

Hi Suz du - try this - on your IE - click on tools>internet options>connections. Make sure that there's nothing in the dial-up box. If there is, remove it. Then click on Lan settings snd make sure automatically detect settings is clicked. Then click ok. Close IE and re-open and try it.
If this fixes your problem PLEASE rate as fixed. If not DON'T RATE YET, Just add a comment letting me know what happened and gladly assist you further. Thanks.

Sounds like the router is not configured properly. I would follow the instructions that came with the router. There is a free program called Network Magic www.networkmagic.com that you can download and run free for 30 days. I have used this program to sortt out network related problems

Sometimes other programs, such as Firefox and AOL, can accidentally be set to your default internet browser. This is how to change it back to Internet Explorer on Windows XP.
[edit] Steps
  1. Open Internet Explorer
  2. Go to Tools > Internet Options
  3. Click to the Programs tab
  4. Click Reset Web Settings
  5. When the pop-up menu comes up, select Yes.
  6. Another method that does reset all your other options:
  7. Open Control Panel and double-click Internet Options.
  8. Click the Programs tab.
  9. Click to select the Internet Explorer should check to see whether it is the default browser check box.
  10. Click OK.
  11. Start Internet Explorer and when you are prompted to make it the default browser, click Yes.

After aol main computer went down they told me to reoncifugre the router i dont know how to do this and as i dont have a home fone line i cnt ring them any help please?

First thing to do is try to connect to the Internet without AOL then sign on to AOL using the broadband connection. When Internet Explorer is open, even without a connection, go to Tools>Internet Options>Connections and check the 'Never Dial a Connection', Click on Advanced and check the 'Automatically Detect Settings' check box. If you are not connecting to the Internet then turn off or unplug the power to the modem, turn it back on and wait 2 minutes. If you don't connect then do the same with the router power. If you still haven't connected using just Internet Explorer, NOT AOL, then talk to your router directly:) Do this by Start>Run>type http://192.168.1.1 (Linksys) or http://192.168.10.1 (Motorola). A logon screen appears. User Name is the manufacturer's name and 'admin' is the password. A web page or dashboard will appear. For a cable modem select DHCP. For DSL select PPPoE. Static addresses can also be entered if you know what they are but probably not. When you see ip addresses listed open Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera, Chrome or whatever browser flavor you like EXCEPT AOL. Once connected to the Internet then go to AOL. More specifics on your broadband service and hardware makes will get you more specific help if you need. Happy surfing!

Connecting DLink thru Comcast Cable Modem and Vonage box

first you see the in the internt explorer in that tools in that is give internet option in that connection>lan settings> if the proxey server is ther then remove it if not ther then go it. i think you get it.

second think is that in your dlink router reconfigure the router properly and give the isp details correct and one more thing is check the dns value.
