I'm trying to fix my mom's computer. Last night she was playing a game and everything froze. It wouldn't Ctrl+Alt+Del so she pressed on the 'power' button to shut it off that way. It didn't, though. The light near the 'power' button kept turning from purple to blue to orange and the computer won't shut down. I tried unplugging the power source and letting the power drain so it would shut off, but the power didn't drain and the computer still won't shut off. She really doesn't want to have to take it to Best Buy to get it fixed, but nothing I tried works. I need help!
Hi,
by pressing the power button in, the computer has gone into standby or hibernate mode.
Heres what you Do:- press and hold the power button for between 10 to 20 seconds.
that should bring it out of hibernation.
if that does,nt work. remove the main battery.
when you,ve resolved the problem, run a disk-scan via your windows operating system.

Hold down the power button for at least 15 seconds. If that still doesn't work, unplug the laptop from the wall if its plugged in. Turn the laptop over and remove laptop battery. Its usually large square or rectangle shape and there should be a release slide switch near or on the battery to remove it. Once removed wait a few seconds and put the battery back in and try to power up the laptop. If the laptop doesn't power up try plugging it into the wall.
SOURCE: A disk read error occurred. the comp. said press ctrl+alt+del
The computer cannot find the operating system, the disk error message means it cannot find the hard disk, you most likely have a faulty hard disk or less likely a faulty disk controller.
You can test the hard disk by removing it and connecting it to a USB hard drive adapter and plug it into a working computer's USB port. If this computer cannot detect this drive as an external drive then you will know your hard drive is faulty ad you need to buy a new one and install Windows and programs etc..

Sounds like a problem with your hard drive, you could follow this guide to make a bootable diagnostics CD to try to determine the exact problem.

My Toshiba Satellite A135-s4427 was working fine this morning I turned it on to find that it froze, control-alt-delete won't work, neither will the touch pad. I turned it off by pressing the power button for a while. When the machine turns on it prompts me to a black and white screen with various options, I press enter; but it still won't work. I've taken of the battery and disconnected it for a while; yet, the problem remains. The screen is frozen, the buttons, and touch pad don't respond.
