Freezer not freezing food even at highest setting

I had noticed that a box of ice cream had melted inside the freezer as my first notice that all of a sudden the freezer was no longer keeping my items cold. I had from build up so I defrosed the freezer. Then I turned it back on and repacked the food. 2 days later, food is cold but not frozen. Please advise.

I am having the same problem. My bread and ice cream do not seem to be freezing in my new chest freezer. I have had to throw a lot of food away as well.

The freezer works for a couple of days and then stops freezing - power is on and the freezer will turn back on if I turn the temp control off and then on again - lots of food has had to be thrown out -

If the unit is running continuously and not maintaining the temperature cold enough the system may have a leak. If it is NOT running continuously the problem could be in the temperature control.

What setting do I use to make the freezer freeze food

When you are freezing something, set your freezer on its highest setting. However, if you are going to leave your freezer empty for a long time, you should change the setting to a lower one. Here's a great tip for ice cream: place a tub of ice cream in a ziplock bag before putting it in the freezer; it prevents freezer burn. You know when your ice cream gets so cold, it's hard to scoop out? Doing this stops that, it's keeps the ice cream just soft enough for easy scooping!

My freezer doesn't seem to be freezing as well as it has in the past. somethings are frozen hard but ice cream isn't as solid as it should be

Try this... unplug...
take everything out and defrost the freezer
(go get a couple bags of ice and a big clean garbage can so you can keep the food cold)
you can defrost the freezer faster with a hair dryer
when you finish turn t'stat to high setting... put all food back in and dont overload and dont block any air vents (if they are located at top dont overlaod)
plugg in wait 24 hrs...
if you dont notice a difference let me know...

hope this was helpful

Freezer stops and start

ice cream is always the last to freeze and a temp of minus -10 degrees is usually required to get it to get hard. if you put the ice cream in the door it will be especially tough to freeze. a good thermometor is a good investment as you can observe the temps. usually ten degrees or 20 degrees is what they run. yes they do cycle on and off as long as they hold temps thats good. the outside of the freezer gets warm because the hot compressed refrigerant is spread through piping near its surface giving up its heat of compression . setting the stat to max will freeze the ice cream eventually but utility bill suffers . good luck
