Jerky play back on a PC is determined by a few things. Video card memory, RAM, CPU processor speed, and *codec*. VLC has it's own codec so does not rely on the ones supplied by Windows. If even VLC is playing it back choppy, try lowering the video resolution. It may be too high for the video card to handle.
Perhaps you don't have enough RAM to run the file at it's full resolution. Reduce background tasks or close them using the task manager. Upgrade your video card, add more RAM. If you can't add RAM or a video card - either reduce the resolution setting on the camera for next time, or use the HDMI port on the camera to directly playback video to a HDMI device.
This is what the Sanyo CG9 Users Manual has to say about viewing videos taken with the camera:
"About video clip files recorded with this camera You can use Apple’s QuickTime to play back video clips on a computer. Playback may be possible using other software that supports the ISO standard MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 (AAC audio)."

Hi I think it must be a picasa problem I have downloaded again after using a registry fix programme I have been trying to download picasa 3 with no luck so perhaps this did not help, or my computer is having more than one bad hair day! Sue
I think you have a codec problem. You should download a codec pack such as FinalCodecs2008 or K-Lite Codec Pack Remove any previous installed codec pack and install one of these two and you should't have problems running any movie file! I have FinalCodecs2008 and I didn't had any problems.Hope you'll listen to my advice ;)
You can try Nero 8 (www.nero.com) which has a cool player (Nero Showtime) and a user friendly transcoding/DVD authoring tool (Nero Vision) to offer. You may also consider Videolan VLC (www.videolan.org) which is free, open source, less user-friendly but it supports batch file conversion -- a realloy cool features when you have a dozen+ video files to convert.
Using Windows Media Player
You need Microsoft Windows Media Player Version 9 or higher and Sharp G.726 Audio Codec in order to play MPEG4 files from the Memory Stick on your PC.
If you are not currently using Microsoft Windows Media Player Version 9 or higher.
Important: The Sharp G.726 Audio Codec needed to play MPEG4 files is no longer signed by Microsoft.
If Sharp G.726 Audio Codec is not properly installed on your PC, it will not play MPEG4 Audio.
Using DivX®
You can also download a free DivX® Player and codec to play your MPEG and other video format files.
DivX® for Windows is a free codec built to play every version of DivX content. The DivX codec also plugs into your existing video software so you can view and create high-quality DivX videos at a fraction of the original size. The DivX codec also adds DivX video playback support to most popular media players.
I can't get my PC to recognise the Xacti C40 via USB lead & to transfer the video files when the camera is set to "Card Reader".
Thank you
Stu.
