We are trying to install the Learning co. Living Books-Little Monster at school onto a windows 98 pc for English & Spanish. The program keeps coming up with an error message that: Living Books needs a 640x480 256 color display driver. I have a NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4200 with AGP8X graphics card in the system. What do I need to do to get this program to work? Thanks, Charlie Town [email protected]

You can follow these steps in correct your problem using the software for your video card, if you don't have it install run the setup cd for it to install the software.

1.Find the program on your desktop or go to it by clicking "Start" and then "Programs" or "All Programs."
2.Right click the program and click "Properties."
3.Click on the "Compatibility" tab.
4.Select the check box beside "Run in 256 Colors."
5.Click "Apply" and then click "OK."

But if you dont have that option there you may need to upgrade to a much better video card for this software to work.

Installing

You will not be able to directly. My only suggestion is to find a third party emulator program that will more or less translate your program to windows...if there is one for that program that is.

You do the below seteps: This is what you do:

Start > Control Panel > Clock, Language, and Region > Regional and Language Options.

Once in the Regional and Language Options, click the Keyboards and Languages tab. If you see a drop down list of languages, see if it is set to English. If not, set to English. However, if you do not have this list there, you may need to install it.

Hi I have purchased Grandma and Me for my four-year old nephew but I can't get it to run. I installed it and I got a message saying that the product had installed successfully. When I click on the...

Several older Living Books wouldn't run in XP until right clicked and changed properties to force it to run in 640x480 and in 256 colors. I am getting the 'missing book outline file' when I try to copy and play the contents of Cat in the Hat cd to hard drive. My daughter has trouble changing out the CDs herself, so the ones that cannot be installed directly to and run from hard drive, instead of CD will not be used by her nearly as much because she won't ask for help, she'll try icon and if it doesn't work, will just move on to some other game. The Cat in the Hat will install a launcher and run from CD fine, it just prevents full install and run from hard drive with that 'missing book outline file' which seems as though it may be intended to prevent install and run from hard drive rather than cd. I have not yet found solution for that. I was able to install Grandma, Harry & Haunted House, Little Monster and Arthur's Pet Chase to hard drive of XP machine. On one or two of them, before I could get it to run from hard drive, I had to edit the .ini or config files and change the location from d:\ to c:\program files\livingbooks\...folder where .exe resides on hard drive. My 2 cents. Hope that helps someone else.

Living Books

Well, first thing to see if the cd is scratched up. If it looks ok, put the cd in and do not play it yet. Go to My Computer and see the cd in the drive. Right click on the cd drive and go to Properties. Here you might see something that says "make compatible for" or something similar. Choose Windows 95 and try the CD. If it still does not work, repeat the Properties thing and change the display setting option to 256 color or 8 bit. If that fails, change it to Windows 98 and try it. There is a way to get it working. If you are lost, already, I can send you an illustration of this procedure. Good Luck
