Flobo I assume that its the on-board charger and that it is the gray charger with one light. This charger light will only come on when the chair is fully charged. Now if you have left it plugged in all night and still have no light then I would think you have a bad charger. If you have a digital voltmeter you can check the battery voltage throught the external charger port under the joystick. Set it on 200 volts and insert each probe into the outter pin holes and you should be able to read the voltage. Without the charger plugged in you will be reading the total battery voltage 24-27 volts with the charger plugged in 27-30 volts also check the meter with the charger plugged it should show something above zero and gradually decrease as the batteries become fully charged. Hope this helps

The charger is defective. I would not try to charge it externally because if you charge it with a higher rate of current (amperage) than the original charger, it could explode or leak.

Charging your power chair or scooter the correct way can make them last

Whenever you need to charge your power chair or scooter get into the habit of charging overnight. The battery level indicator lights will tell you if your chair or scooter needs charging. Whenever the lights are down into the yellow and especially if they are in the red. If you have the off-board charger, plug the charger into the charger port in the front of your joystick and then plug the charger into the wall socket or turn the on/off switch on and let it charge overnight. When you get up in the morning the charger should have a red light(power) and a green light illuminated (indicating fully charged) Always turn the charger off or unplug it from the wall socket before you unplug it from the chair or scooter. Never have the power on to the charger when you plug or unplug it from your chair or scooter. Whenever you get new batteries always give your batteries a full charge before use and then if you use the chair daily charge it every night. If you do not use your chair or scooter daily charge it at least once a week. Never leave the charger plugged in and on for more than 24 hours. Your batteries should last you 3-4 years if you charge them correctly.

I need to know how to charge the batterie om my sisters merits wheelchair,i do not know how to plug it up,,or if the charger is located on the frame someplace or if its freestanding.plain and simple i do...

sking the off board charger is a 5 inch by 3 inch rectangular box with a power plug on one end and a round silver 3 prong plug on the other. The charger plugs into the charger port located under the front of the joystick. Plug the charger plug into the joystick and then into the wall socket. When it is fully charged the light on the chrager will turn from yellow to green. Unplug the power from the wall socket first then unplug from the joystick In ither words always have the charger unplugged when you plug the charger up to the chair Now if the chair has an onboard charger there should be a power cord that just plugs into the chair usually somewhere in the rear of the chair all you have to do is plug it into a wall socket and charge away Hope this helps you

Battery will not charge. No power indications when charger is pluged in.

If your charger light does not come on when you plug it into the wall, the charger may need to be replaced.
If the controller does not react at all after the charger has been connected for serveral hours, there may be a bad fuse. Even if the batteries are low, the controller should at least flicker on and off to indicate that is is trying to come on.
If the charger lights up when you plug it into the power chair, but the power chair does not respond when you turn it on while the charger is connected, or the chair will not power on after the charger has been connected for at least 8 hours, the batteries may need to be replaced. Power chair batteries will oxidize and go solid if they are not maintained properly or have been stored. Please consult your owner's manual for the type of batteries needed; most likely it is a U1 12 volt 33amp battery, which can be purchased at Batteries Plus or Interstate Battery for around $75-$150 each.
Good luck!

My Hoveround MPV5 batteries will not charge, do you think it is a battery problem or a charger problem?

If you plug the charger into the wall, turn on the power switch and the light comes on, the charger should be working properly. Here is a way to test it-
Attach the charger that came with the power chair to the power chair controller firmly and turn the power chair on, while the charger is running. What should happen:the lights on the controller will scroll back and forth. If this does NOT happen and you can confirm the charger is turned on, the charger handle is fully seated inside the controller receptacle and the wall outlet has power, then the charger may have a problem and needs to be replaced.

If the charger is OK, then there may be a problem with the batteries. Here are some sypmtoms:
1-You connect the charger but the light on the charger never goes red, it just stays green.
2-You connect the charger but the light goes from red to green VERY fast.
3-The charger light goes from red to green but when you disconnect the charger and press the power button on the controller, you only have one flashing red light, or the batteries drain within just a few minutes of use.
4-The power chair has been stored or sitting idle for several months.
5- The power chair has been connected to the charger 24-7 for several months.
Any of the above examples indicates that the batteries are oxidized or damaged and will most likely need to be replaced. The MPV5 takes two, U1 12 volt 33 amp batteries which can be purchased at any battery warehouse store like Interstate Batteries or Batteries Plus.
Good luck!

When i plug my chair in using the onboard charger, my meter will not move, I have juice going into the charger but nothing comes out.

Then you must have a charger problem. If you have a digital voltmeter or access to one. Set it to 200 volts dc and plug the leads into the two outter holes of the charger port located under the front of the joystick. Without the charger plugged in you will be reading the current voltage of the batteries. Now plug the charger cord into the wall socket and the reading on the meter should go up to 26-30 volts. if it doesn't change the reading after a few minutes then the charger is bad. Now you can get an off-board charger for your chair somewhat cheaper than an on-board charger. If you have a friend or neighbor that has a chair or scooter with an off-board charger you can borrow it for a few hours to charge your chair until you can get a charger of your own. Check on e-bay for any good 4 amp charger for a power chair it would work fine to charge your chair. Hope this helps you

What is the proper way to charge the Pronto M51

Eduardo After using your chair and the battery level lights are down with yellow or red lights showing just plug the chair into the wall socket and let er rip. Now really after using your chair during the day and you are ready for bed just plug in the charger and let it charge over night. In the morning unplug the charger and you should be set for the day. If you don't use the chair everyday always put it up with a full charge and about once a week plug it in and let it charge overnight. Never leave the chair plugged in all the time and never leave it for more that 24 hours. The charger has two lights on it one red and one yellow or green that are hard to see because they are under the rear cover. When the chair is fully charged the yellow light turns green and you can unplug the charger and you should have a full charge. Hope this helps you

When turning power it makes a clicking sound but does not power up. battery charger has a red and green light on. When plugged in and turned on it flashes 8 times. I checked the power control connection,...

The chair will not move if the charger is plugged in. The flashes are normal with the charger plugged into the chair. The lights on the charger mean that the batteries have been fully charged. Red and yellow lights mean charging. After you unplug the charger from the chair (if off-baord charger, turn charger off or unplug from the wall) then unplug from joystick. after plug is removed from joystick press the on button and all the battery lights should be lit and when you move the joystick forward you will hear the electric bake release and the chair should move forward etc Hope this helps

How do I charge the Hoveround mpv 4? I plugged the charger into the chair and plugged the cord into the wall using an extension cord. The red light on the box turns red when in the "on" position but the...

Firstly, it is bad news to use an extension cord with the charger as it can get very hot. It will sometimes take 8-12 hours to get a full charge on the batteries. If the light does not go to green on the charger, the batteries may be damaged and not able to take a charge. This is especially true if the Power chair was stored after your father in law died; the gel in the batteries may have gone solid. The lights on the controller will go left to right then back if the charger is connected properly.
The brake release knobs both need to be in the UP/DRIVE position for the motors to engage.
