Transfer data I can't seem to find the connection to plug this camera into my computer. It's some sort of connector, which has a USB male plug on the other end, to transfer photos and charge the camera. Do you know where this plugs into the camera? Any guidance would be much appreciated! Daunted in Cincinnati

Have you considered NOT connecting your camera to your computer?

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa ( http://picasa.google.com ).

okay you will need a data cable wire (usb male on one end and a compatible male plug for your cell on the other end). switch the connection on cell to usb (data & bluetooth should be the other options) once connected goto my computer you should see a new drive (your cell)..... no driver is needed plug n play

You need a standard USB printer cable. It will have a different type of connector on each end. The end that plugs into your computer is Connector 1: USB Type A Male

The end that plugs into your printer is
Connector 2: USB Type B Male

Do you have the CD that came with your digital camera?

IF so, put it in your optical drive, and install the software.
This CD contains the drivers for your camera.
Drivers allow your computer to 'communicate' with you camera.

Now obtain the correct USB connector that plugs into your camera. Should be a male Micro, style of USB male plug,

They sell USB cables that have this style of male USB plug on one end, and the usual USB A style on the other end of the cable.

Looking at the usual style of USB plug, compare it's size to the Micro USB plug.

Yes, the female version of that plug is on your phone.

There is also a kit made by Philips, that has 5 different adapter ends of the USB style, in the kit.

The adapter ends just plug onto a male USB A style end.
The kit comes with a Male A USB to Male A USB cable.
It's rolled up on a tiny reel that is about 1 inch wide, and is retractable.
You just grab the ends of the cable, and pull out the length of cable you need.

With the software from your camera installed on your computer, and the USB cable plugged from your camera to your computer, you are able to download.

Some camera's have it so you turn the camera on, and open the shutter. Your camera may differ. Check your camera user guide.

Another way is to buy an All-In-One card reader.
Plug a USB cable into it, and your computer.

Some cameras have a multi-use cable which can be used for both data transfer or copy, and video output. Most cameras I have worked with usually have two cables, one for video playback and the other for data transfer or copy to a computer or other device. Most all cameras today use the convince of the standard computer USB access.
Most cameras have a cover made of either rubber or plastic which can be folded back to reveal connectors for mini-USB and video outlets. The appropriate cables must be used to connect to video or a computer or other device.
It is advisable to read your user manual for information on usage of the video and the data transfer cables and the software, if that is what you need.
I also suggest to skip all that and use a card reader, no more hassle. A card reader will give you more freedom without having to install software to see your photos or other files.

You can buy a mini usb cord from any computer shop. You can also use one from a digital camera if it has a mini USB slot.

Hi Heidi.

Be sure your camera is on when you have connected it to your PC. Then you have to put it in Play mode and rewind the tape if it's a USB cable you connect with. Start Windows Movie Maker and test.
