You need to take a can of compressed air and clean out the motor, this will assist in start up.

Saw will start but will not idle

Someplace near the carburetor should be an idle mix screw and an idle speed screw. There may also be a high-speed mix screw. Try turning the idle speed screw in 1/4-turn at a time until it idles. If you turn it too far, the clutch will always be engaged so the blade will never stop.

Once you get it to idle, adjust the idle mix screw in or out 1/4-turn at a time until it idles at the highest speed. Turn the mix screw in JUST until the idle speed starts to drop a little, then back it out 1/4 turn.

Now adjust the idle speed screw again until it idles smoothly at a low enough speed that the blade stops.

I have an old Murray 38608b. It runs great until I engage the blades. Then it sputters and the engine dies. I want to fix this myself if I can. Help! Thanks!

Try turning blades by hand. Should turn. May need clean bottom. May be to much buildup. ALSO CHECK YOUR SPINDLES BEARING OUT.

07 mtd yardsman mower with 13.5 tecumseh runs great untill engage mower , then dies down and blows black smoke

This sounds like a micro switch acting up, the first switch to check is the seat switch, make sure the block connecter is pushed fully home on the switch ( there is often a fail safe inside the connecter should the block come away from the switch )

Troubleshooting lakewood fan model hv 18

This one the best brands on the market that I have ever owned.
If the fan motor will not turn on or hums and/or turns slowly more than likely its a lubrication problem.

1. Unplug the fan from the wall remove the 516 screws to the cage

2. Try turning the fan blade by hand if it is tough to turn more than likely it's a lubrication problem

3. You will have two oil holes one in the front one in the back spray WD-40 into these holes, turn the fan blade if it starts to free it up apply more WD-40 and keep turning the blade add more WD-40 until the blade turns freely. Especially in the rear oil hole because this is an oiled bushing that you are adding oil to. Once the fan is turning freely replace the front cage with all the screws plug the fan and I hope this solves your problem. You may add 3 in 1 oil or some other very light lubricating oil periodically.

I hope this solves your problem Mike

GARBAGE DISPOSAL, IN SINK ERATOR JUST HUMS, DOES NOT GRIND

Try inserting an allen wrench in the hole at the bottom center of the unit and turning clockwise. Once you feel the resistance give way, the blades are turning freely. Hit the re-set button (also on the bottom of the unit). Run water and pulse a few times to clear whatever was blocking the blades.

When I engage the front PTO the engine dies.

There is somthing in the PTO that is binding up. I am assuming the PTO is for the mower blades. The belt(s) could be binding up, not on the pulleys, etc. The blades should turn by hand easily.
