Hi. When I boot my laptop I got this mistake PXE-E61 Media test Failure. I thought its a hdd, but it is not. When I go to bios sometimes I see hdd sometimes no. But after i get out from bios I can boot the system. I think its motherboard problems. Could use some help. Thanks
Hy i have your solution.its simple. the problem is remote network data entry that start in the bios systems, produce by a virus call downloader.trojan or bootable Tj.exe, normally the bios has to read it and it gives the error " media test faliurecheck cables",ir you dont repaired quickly your laptop or desktop eventually will not boot the windows att all, this have to be kill before that happens, First of all clean your pc with Trojan Remover and then do just a simple task restart your desktop or laptop and do not let it initiate windows just press F2 at the bios and go to the Bios program and then go to the tab name Bios and press F9 that means "default bios systems" and everything will change in your bios and when your desktop or pc restart it will never show that message again and your bios will initiate with no problems and the virus that put that into your pc will no longer control your bios system.
Try to load setup defaults in bios
what i can understand from you is that your system sometimes cannot find an os and the media test faliure thing...
first of all calm down this is not a serious problem your system is ok you can take these steps and may solve the prblm.
1- try to low-level reformat your hard drive by a low level formatting disket. then re install windows.
2 - check the data cable to hard disk if pluged in properly.usually laptops hdd is pluged with no cable (port)
3 - check cmos battery it could be low . try to replace it if its dead.
hit me back and tell me what happens with you.

I dropped my gateway m320 laptop. when trying to reboot I get the following message:
PXE-E61 MEDIA TEST FAILURE
PXE-MOF EXITING PXE ROM
NO OPERATING SYSTEM FOUND
I am getting a pxe e61 media test failure, check cable. this is a gateway laptop, also it is saying operating system not found. The operating system is Vista, 32 bit. This is the second time this has happened I reformatted the hard drive and reinstalled vista last week. and it seemed to be fine. Now it is doing it again, Any suggestions??
Hi,
My name is Albert.
I bought a new HDD for my Acer Travelmate 4000.
I had it formatted on another computer and placed back the GHOST image.
It appeared that my laptop couldn't start: PXE: E61 Media test failure: check cable.
This message makes no sense. Something had gone wrong in the formatting process and the laptop couldnot find a bootable system partition.
Therefor I inserted my Windows XP cd, started the installation program, had my partition completely formatted again en let Windows install XP until it asked for a restart.
AT THIS POINT I stopped installing Windows XP, rebooted the computer with my GHOST boot CD and placed back my Ghost imaged from the old HDD.
This time all went fine, my computer started as new.
I wasn't able to fix this problem, I think it's motherboard problem
