The D-Link is configured using a Web browser. After you have connected your computer to the D-Link router, follow these steps: 1. Launch your Web browser. Enter "" into the address bar and press the "Enter" or "Return" key.
2. A logon pop-up screen will appear. Type "admin" for the username and leave the password field blank.
3. Click "OK". A D-Link configuration screen will appear. All changes to the D-Link configuration are made here.

Enabling WEP* (Wired Equivalent Privacy) will require anyone wishing to access the Internet through your wireless network to enter a password. After the correct password is entered, a connection is established, and all data sent from the D-Link to the computer and back is encrypted. From the D-Link configuration screen:
1. Click the "Home" tab.
2. Click the "Wireless" button.
3. Click the "Open System" button next to "Authentication".
4. Set the "WEP Encryption" to "128 bit".
5. Set the "Key Type" to "ASCII".
6. Type a 13 digit password into "Key 1".
7. Click "Apply".
8. When you connect to your wireless network from a computer, you will need to enter the 13 digit password.
*Note: If your computer's operating system supports it, enabling WPA-PSK is more secure than WEP. The steps above can be modified to set up WPA-PSK.

1.Verify that your cable internet service works by plugging your network cable into the back of the cable modem, turn off the cable modem and wait about 30 seconds and turn it back on. Restart your computer to allow it to obtain a fresh IP address from the cable modem. Open Internet Explorer and see if a web page loads. If you have success you can move on to step #2. If not call your cable service provider for tech support. 2.I have a linksys WRT54G wireless/w 4 port wired network hub, this work pretty good to set it up. The wired part makes set up of the wireless side a lot easier, this requires two computers and that's why you have a network right? Plug into the wireless router in the #1,2,3 or 4 port and type in your browser This should bring you to a request for a username and password, default is admin admin. If you can't find the router from the IP address above or don't know the password (maybe it's been changed and you can't remember) you can reset the router by holding down the reset button for 30 seconds. 3.Now you are in the administrative part of the router, make sure the wireless part is turned on and rename the network something unique so you don't look like the other dozen linksys routers in the neighborhood. In step 4 I will show you how to secure your wireless network so the world doesn't tap in for free internet. 4.> 1. Log in to your router and enter the default password. The version of the firmware or the router that you are using will determine where the Change Password button is located. Make sure you find it. This is the single most important step. Change the default password and choose a password that contains both numbers and letters. This will reduce the possibility of your password being guessed or hacked. 2. Configure your DHCP settings with only the number of computers that need Internet access. For example, if you have five computers, configure DHCP to hand out only five addresses. 3. To further secure your router with DHCP, find out the MAC address of each computer and configure DHCP to assign leases to specific MAC addresses only. If you run an ipconfig /all (from the Windows command line) on each computer, you can obtain the MAC address. It is listed as the "Physical Address" and will have a format that looks like this: 00-50-56-X0-00-08. 4. On a regular basis, visit the Linksys Web site to make sure you have the latest version of firmware for your router. 5. Your router has a setting to Block WAN Requests from the outside. You should keep this setting enabled because it hides your IP address from the rest of the world. 6. Within the router settings, you can Enable Remote Upgrade and Remote Administration of your Linksys router. To limit the risk of attack, make sure these settings are disabled. 7. Enable Logging for outgoing and incoming URLs or IP addresses for your Internet connection. On a regular interval, review these logs for suspicious activity. 8. Once you have enabled logging in step #7, download the Linksys LogViewer for easier administration of your incoming and outgoing logs. Remember to purge the logs on a regular interval to keep them manageable. 9. Once you have followed the above steps and hardened the settings on your router, visit Shields UP and run its battery of tests to check how secure your router looks to the outside world. 10. Don't rely on the Linksys router as your only means of defense. Install a desktop firewall on each PC that's connected to the Internet through the Linksys router. A free and effective desktop firewall is Zone Alarm. Furthermore, it is important to keep the desktop firewall up to date with the latest version in order to remain secure in the future.
5.In this order- Turn everything off, connect a network cable from the cable modem to the internet port on the wireless router. You should still have your wired pc connected to one of the ports on the router, that's ok. Turn on the cable modem and let all the lights come on and verify the internet is connected. Next turn on the wireless router and let it get it's connection to the cable modem. Wait about 30 seconds to make sure they are happy and ready to move on. 6.Go to your wired pc and turn it on, open a web browser and see if a web page loads. It should at this point and now you are ready to configure your wireless computer(s). 7.Turn on your wireless computer and see if it sees your network, if you turned off SSID broadcast it won't see the network but that doesn't mean it's not there. Got to your wireless card settings by entering the control panel and editing the connection settings for your network including the SSID and password information. Hit connect and all should be alive and kicking. I struggled for about 3 days (in spare time) before I had everything working properly. hope this help....pls rate

When I try to connect to the wireless of the linksys wrt320n, I am prompted to enter the device password? Where I could find this device password?

Hi tabua/rob,

When you try to connect to your wireless network, you will be prompted for the password. Please note that this password is to authenticate you to connect to your wireless network. You need to log into the router from a computer which is connected to the router with an ethernet cable to find this password from the router's web interface.

1. From the hardwired computer (If you don't have one, you may have to connect your computer to the WRT320N with an ethernet cable on one of the 4 ethernet ports).
2. The default ip address of linksys routers is You could access the router's setup page by typing in your web browser.
3. Please leave username blank. Enter "admin" in the password field (But without quotes)
4. You should be logged into the router's setup page.
5. Click on the "Wireless" tab. You may find "Wireless Security" just below it. Click on it.
6. You should be able to find your wireless password here. If you are using WPA security, then you need to note down the "Pre-shared key" value from this page. If you are using WEP security, then you have to note down "Key 1" value. This will be your password for your wireless network.
7. Then try to connect to your wireless network from your wireless computer. Enter the password, which you have noted in step 6, when prompted. WRT320N should recognize you and allow you to connect wirelessly, provided the password is correct.

I hope this helps you. Kindly rate my solution, if it does.

I set up my Belkin N Wireless Modem and it has been working fine. Except I did not install it with a "password" at the time of setup. How do I put in a password now. I cannot find a program in...

Hi psheayn,

Kindy copy this steps in notepad and also copy the screen shot before u start doing it.

You can put up a wireless password manually b logging in to the router interface but you should be very careful because if you change any thing else it might be a messup your whole router so kindly do the following steps alone.

Step 1: Open the internet explorer

Step 2: Clear the address bar and just type the number alone which is

Step 3: You will get router screen as below

Step 4: In the left corner of the page under "Wireless" Security and select security mode as "64 bit WEP "

Step 5: Type any 2 numbers per box as u like and apply changes. Also make sure that you are gonna copy the password. If you want to connect any other computer in future you will need to have that password to connect.

Step 6: Under security in left side select "WPS or Wifi Protected Setup" and select WPS as disabled and apply changes. Dont worry it not related to security its just an option that has to be disabled if you enable the 64 bit WEP password.

Step 7: Then Connect wireless computer to the wireless network name and will ask for the password this time since password has been enabled. And ur router is gonna be a protected one and no one can hack it.

Step 8: In case if ur not able to connect to the network remove the preferred network and connect to it.

To remove preferred network

Start -->control pannel --> Network and Internet connection-->Network connection --> Right click on Wireless network connection icon --> Select 2nd tab Wireless network --> Remove preferred network one by one.

Windows Vista/ Windows 7

Start -->control pannel --> Network and Internet connection -->Network and sharing center --> In the left side select Manage Wireless network and remove preferred network one by one.

Check out the screen shot to enable security on the Router and to disabled WPS

Hi. Please can you tell me how to stop others outside my household using my internet through my router by using a password. Please try and keep it simple for me as not great with computers. many...

Rob, this change is router brand and model relevant. In essence you need to log into the router and change the wireless settings. Go to the website for the brand and download instructions relevant to yoru specific unit. You want to invoke WEP wireless security, and assign yoru own password, often yoru 10 digit home or cell phone number, change system ID to something that you recognize, change AND RECORD the changes that you make. Also, change the broadcast channel to 11 or so, and have less issues with land line wireless phones.

There is much higher security that you could invoke, but typically just passwording the wireless access does it.
