Archos 605 WIFI

I have just purchased the Archos 605 and would like to copy my DVD movies (purchased, not home movies) onto it. However, the DVDs appear to be encrypted. Will I be able to do this if I purchase the Cinema Plug In?.

    I have an archos605 wifi, im having trouble getting movies to playback properly whether they are avi mp4 or dvd.....



    Is the podcast plug in a necessity?



    I have been converting avi's to mp4 but get the plug in prompt.



    yet i have installed some avi's which work fine? (baffling)

In order to copy any purchased dvd's you will need to buy the software to do so then copy over to your computer via avi or wmv format prior to synchronising with your Archos.

    For ripping your dvd's you can have a free trial for the first 5 with magic dvd ripper. I have just done 3 and although it takes quite some time to do the pictures are perfect. The cost to buy it is only $34 so perhaps worth giving a try then once downloaded just sync to your archos via the windows multimedia player (you will need to update it to version 11 though.)

Search google for DVD 4 3 once installed drag and drop your dvds (the data files) to the archos if you have the cinema plugin it should all work!

You need to plug your Archos into your pc and explore the drive.
Copy the plugin from your pc to the root of the Archos.
The Archos should say that it's found software and start installing.

    I have just purchased an Archos 605 wi fi 160 GB player but my computer wont recognise the player through the usb cable ( My operating system is windows XP home )

    I have a macbook with leopard and when I plugged in my 605 via proprietary USB, it immediately recognized it. On the 605's screen, you'll notice it asks if you want to connect or charge only. click connect. then the "disk" shows up on your mac's screen. then I just double-click to open the disk image and drag and drop the files that I wanted to copy. Only took about 45 minutes or so to copy my library over.

    How to convert videos/movies on to my archos 605 media player? keep getting an error message
    The archos will only play M-peg 4 type files unless you buy on of the plug ins, so the way round it is to crack a dvd using "dvd shrink" this will get round the copy protection then convert the cracked dvd to m-peg 4 im using "any video converter" tese programs can be downloaded free on the net. not sure if this is the easiest way but it works

    Doenlaoding dvd to windows media player then on to Archos
    Have you tried to add those files to WMP? In the directory theres an option 'add to library', then you have to select the folder where the movie is in. also Archos cant read DVD extensions, I always convert them to AVI MPEG4, but WMV has to do it well too. I never use that option, because I prefer manually copy past instead of sync. WMP has to convert automatically to WMV when synchronising.

    Same issue on my Archos 605 wifi 4GB
    The Repair didn't work so here's what I did.
    1) connected via USB and got all my Picture, Videos and Music to a safe place.
    2) Downloaded firmware update.
    fouund it here - http://www.downloadplex.com/Drivers/Firmware/Archos/Download-Archos-605-Wifi-4GB-Firmware-2.1.04_109044.html

    3. Copied update to root of archos drive and rebooted
    4. Archoes installed the update and rebooted and came up to desktop again
    5. reinstalled plugins (thank god I saved them) copied plug-in to root.
    6. Back on the road again

    Archos 605 copying films from DVD to the player
    If change the setting of the 605 to "hard disk" then a PC sees the 605 as a hard disc when connected using the usb lead. You can then copy and paste files directly to the 605..
