I bought a Garmin NUVI 200 a month ago and then bought the 2009 Map Update that just came out.; When I did the download a got a message that I was 27 meg short of space. So I went out and bout a 1 gig SD card and installed it. I still get the same message! And now it looks like it is not locating the satellites. And, of course. there is no tech support at Garmin on Saturday. Wish I would have bought a TomTom....
Very easy to fix the problem. When you plug in the Garmin Nuvi 200 to your computer, two drives will show up . Go to the Garmin drive and click on voice file, delete all the languages except for the one you want to use (i.e. American USA), this will give you all the 37 Megs you need to download 2009 maps. Takes a while to download using the web updater that you need to download into your computer from Garmin, but I had no problems.
Thanks deanbrt! I downloaded, and had the same problem you did. No answer on Garmin's web site.
By the way, the phone # is 800-800-1020
Deanbrt,
The solution worked very well.
Thanks for posting it !
What would be nice if the company would have a support phone number that people can talk people so they can help support they problem and get them fix. So If you can find a number please let me have it please and I can call them myself
Deanbrt,
I read your post and followed your instructions. I've tried twice to download the 2009 map from garmin (since deleting the 27 languages I didn't need in the help and voice sections) and both times now they are saying the server is having problems, try later.
I would never have thought that a company which has so much of the market share for a particular product would be so frustrating to work with. Selling a product that can't do what it's marketed to do (without backdoor / shadetree mechanics) when the software fix could be easy to fix. Selling products world wide but having support servers that can't keep up and a customer support service that is unresponsive to the buying public is not the way to win new customers in a day and age of international communication between the masses. Oh, I forgot, I could name a number of companies like that.
Thanks for your help. As soon as I get passed the Garmin server problem I'll post what the effect was.
I got the solution from Garmin and I am pretty pissed about it. Basically, the NUVI 200 does not have enough memory to take the 2009 Maps that include Canada, even though it says on the disk cover it says it does and so does Garmin's web site. So to get enough memory you need to hook it up to your computer, go to My Computer and then find the Garmin. Then you find the folders marked Voices and Help and delete everything that is in a language you think you will not use and it will free up the space you need. Pretty poor testing and advertising on Garmin's part.

I JUST GOT MY AND I WANT TO UP DATE THE NEW MAPS BEFORE MY 30 DAYS IS OVER. JUST DON'T KNOW HOW TO DO IT
I bought the DVD at Wal Mart so did not do the dowload online. If you keep having server problems I would go that route. It seems to have dowloaded fine after getting rid of the languarge info but it also looks like it loaded the lower 48 and not Canada, which also pisses me off. He also told me I wasted my money on the sd card, other than storing photos on it for display. He said I could buy pre-loaded SD cards for other parts of the world.
