When i turn on the mac it come up to the apple, then a cmd prompt is in the left side and I cannot seem to get past this, i cannot even shutdown, unless i hold the power button or remove the battery...any help? and I dont know the hardware/software in it.

You're following instructions for an IBM-style machine and mouse. You need to be reading instructions for Apple. Often their version of a 'right-click' is to double-click, but it depends on the program. Read your manual about using your mouse, and always look for Apple-specific instructions for any program or application you are using.

search for cmd.com
execute cmd.com
type in " shutdown /s " to shutdown the computer at command prompt
type in " shutdown /r " to reboot the computer at command prompt

Resetting the Firmware on an Apple Intel Based Macbook Pro/Mac Mini/Imac/xServ

As soon as you press the power button hold down all the following keys on the keyboard;
CMD, Option, P, R

This will result in the startup chime sounding twice instead of once.

[CMD is the key left of the spacebar, Option is the key left of CMD]

This should fix most POST/Display/Firmware faults if no serious hardware fault is present

Hold down Cmd-S as you start it up. You'll get 'single user mode', which is text only. See if there are any obviously bad error messages.
At some point you will hopefully get to a command prompt. You'll see a message telling you which commands to type to mount the filesystem and check for errors - follow that.

You could also type the following to look at the last 50 lines of the log file - perhaps there's a clue to the error in there: tail -50 /var/log/system.log
Restart with shutdown -r now
This may not fix your problem but it might tell you where the problem lies.
Otherwise you can boot from your installation disc and restore from that. You'll then need to get all your documents etc. from your backup.

Macs do not have BIOS. They have OpenFirmware.
To access hold down CMD-OPT-O-F during bootup, that is the letter O not zero.
You will get a command prompt 0 >
Do a Google search for OpenFirmware to find out all the commands you can use at the prompt.

Try this :-

1. Reboot 2. Hold apple key + s key down after you hear the chime. (command + s on newer Macs) 3. When you get text prompt enter in these terminal commands to create a brand new admin account (hitting return after each line):
mount -uw / rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone shutdown -h now
4. After rebooting you should have a brand new admin account. When you login as the new admin you can simply delete the old one and your good to go again!
Apple stores wont reset it for you. Computer shops may have charged you $50 to $200 trying to reinstall the Mac.

try starting up with the system/install disk, select language then at the top there is utilities, select disc utility and repair first then repair permissions. Then select startup disc and restart. If this fails then do an archive and install.

first, reboot your computer. then, hold down the apple key and the "s" key after you have heard the chime. when you get the text prompt enter these terminal commands to make a new administrator account (be sure to hit return or enter after each line):

after rebooting your computer, you should have a new administrator account. you can then proceed to delete the old one and you're set
