If it was in anything other than clean water, place it into a bowl of clean water, completely submerged, to clean out any remaining pollutants for at least an hour. Then, do the following:
1) pop out the sim tray using a sim key or something no bigger than a small paper clip. Allow any excess water to drain out, turning the phone in all directions.
2) place the phone next to the grate at the base of your refrigerator for at least 48 hours on a towel to absorb any excess moisture.
3) allow to charge and you should be good to go.

Remember-- do not charge or try to use your phone before drying it out. Do not place in rice. The little particles can get into the little openings in your phone and cause damage, particularly in the charging port.

  1. If you've dropped your iphone in water, turn if off immediately. It's unlikely that it's still on, but, it's possible to damage it further, so power down and continue reading.
  2. Rice. Yes, the old rice trick. Get a bag of uncooked rice and put your iphone in it. Seal the bag back up and try to fend off the shakes as you embark on at least 2-3 days sans iphone. The water in your iphone will take at least this long to get drawn out (hopefully) by the rice.
  3. Don't open up your iphone. This will void the warranty on it. If you take you phone out and still see water leaking around the screen. Put it back in a bag of fresh rice and let the process continue for another two days.
  4. Easiest way to solve dropping your phone in water is to get a new phone. Your warranty probably won't cover dropping it in the toilet, so if you have the extra cash laying around this is an easy option (read quitter).

Useually unrepairable but take the back off then remove battery and sim then use a hair dryer to try and dry out the moisture sometimes it works depends on how much water damage is in the main board

I drop my iphone 4 in the sink

First of all: Don't try to charge it or turn it on unless you're sure all the water has come out. You write it's gotten hot. That means the battery discharged very rapidly du to the water inside the iPhone. It might be the battery or surrounding circuits have been damaged by this, but first let's get the water out.

Put your iPhone in a closed container filled with rice (uncooked! fresh from the store). Rice is (like salt) pulling all water from it's surrounding. Don't use salt as salt can lead to heavy corrosion.
It's a good idea to open the SIM tray.

If you keep this jar/box in a warm place for several days all water will evaporate from the iPhone case into the rice. After that you shouldn't see any traces of humidity left on the iPhone. If unsure leave the iPhone with the rice for a few days more.

Plug the charger in and wait a few minutes to see if the charging indicator shows up or the iPhone starts. Be prepared to pull the plug in case the iPhone gets host very fast. Good Luck.

My iphone 4 drop in my dishwater with bleach will it dry out and work again

Dropping a switched on cell phone into bleached water will certainly damage the electronics in the cell phone.
You can remove the battery and dry it out, but most likely it is damaged beyond repair.

IPhone Smartphone: dropped my iphone into water, it was still on then...

Do a hard reset (menu and power button together for 5sec). If that doesn't work your should take it to the apple store. If they won't help you, keep the iPHone in a warm spot near a radiator for up to a week. You can try to open the iPhone yourself to let the water evaporate faster and clean corrosion. There is an iPhone 4G Repair service that can dot it for you, but if you're a little tech savy you should use an iPhone 4G repair guide that teaches you how to open the phone yourself.
