Hoping to push this back into the light...I have just encountered this same problem. Mine will not open, but seems to operate b/c I have a Hitchcock movie stuck in there and it plays with no problem.
If I hit "open" on the remote or the player, "open(tray open?)" appears on screen and nothing happens.
Will be using a screwdriver by Wed.

hi, BEARHOUSE IS HERE WITH THE Answer i Purchased a Memorex MVD2022 DVD Player at a Goodwill Store For $7.00 Dollars. I Had a Coby Model# 224 with Remote Control My Coby Quit Working the motor Drags. I had Both DVD Players on top of Each Other Tried The Remote For The Coby and The Memorex DVD Player Blinked. So I Cut off The Coby And What Did Find I Found that the Coby Remote Worked on the Memorex The Buttons Are Different But Works Good Enough For Me.
The Setup Button Eject the Disc and the >> fast Forward Button Turns it on and off and the Program Button works For Sub Title other Buttons have other functions for The MemorexMVD 2022 Only thing You Have to work the sound From Surround System are TV.
There should be a small hole on the right side bottom of the tray.....take a paper clip and insert it in the hole....while pushing the eject button...it should open then.....let me know if i helped you.
When you press the eject button you should hear the loading motor engage trying to open the dvd door, if you hear the motor! it indicates a bad loading belt that is stretched or direct drive gear problem, either way dis-assembly will be required to take a shot at repair.
remove the top cover and look at the side of the tray.there is a small motor and belt that drives the tray.the belt is probably pear shaped from sitting so long. give it a gentle push and it will probably open.some are gear driven and the motor could have a flat spot.in any event,push the tray gently and it will most likely open.
my problem is I want my laptop atualisar has 32mb Hasan xp and I want a CD and I can not put a program she is more modern windows 98 am programs and not the camera is not compatible for grabs if I can help as atualisar thanks
Mine looks like it might have a burnt 5W33K resistor. It's the large resistor labeled 5W33KJ located on the front right corner of the main circuit board.
