The software on the Maxtor OneTouch is 32 bit and not compatible with 64 bit Windows 7 Home Premium. So, while your Maxtor drive is somewhat irregularly recognized by a Windows 7 computer, any of the software that was self-booting from the Maxtor fails. The quickest solution is to plug the Maxtor into a computer running Windows XP. Your files are not lost due to data corruption. Just how they have been stored on the Maxtor, I cannot say. If they are simply the usual file types of photos, I cannot see why they could not be copied from the Maxtor (or transferred from it) by something like terracopy freeware.) If the files are in some encrypted form due to Maxtor software, it is best to retrieve them on an XP computer which can run the Maxtor software. Just don't run Maxtor software that will reformat the Maxtor drive before you get the photos off of it. Maxtor software is on the Seagate website but just be careful what you install of it onto the XP computer you use. Don't reformat the Maxtor!

Have you checked that your External HD get enough power?
My Maxtor Onetouch 4 mini came with a cable with two USB plugs. It works fine with one plug in my Macbook, but requires both two to work in older PowerBook G4.
This is probably because older Mac is not feeding enough amps to USB output.
Or then there is something else wrong.

That error occurs when the 3 Quickbooks files don't have the same date. I'm not sure how they get out of synch, but if you check the dates of the files on your Maxtor backup, you'll find they are different.
The easy solution is to delete the files from your Maxtor backup, and then immediately do another backup. Maxtor will copy the current files over and you'll be all set.

the hard disk interface could be broken, open the hard disk case and use it as an internal hard disk as a slave in a computer to save your data
