Sharp Drawer Microwave SMD2489ES. All indications of *****.

It is a motorized drawer and I doubt it likes being opened manually. It would need to be repaired professionally due to the inherent dangers of microwave energy. The drawer motor would be operated by a relay.

Did you read any reviews before you purchased it?

Thumbs Down

- Looks great but features are bad.

Drawer microwaves and this model in particular look great. We did a big reno in December and this is now in the island. Looks good and functions as a basic microwave. Everything else is just south of mediocre. I'd suggest you get a drawer microwave from another company. Bad Stuff: - door opens/closes very slowly (~4 seconds)... doing a 30 second reheat now takes 4+4+30+4+4 = 50% longer just standing around. Likely similar with other drawers, but an unexpected negative. - doesn't let you tell it to start until fully closed - its default sounds and reminders are ridiculously annoying - beep-beep-beep on finish, and 10 seconds after that, and 10 seconds after that, and.... on and on - it forgets all settings during a power outage, turning back on the annoying sounds - and forgets your network connection - but good news, you won't want to use that feature - controls are not intuitive - classic 40 buttons where you use 5 The WiFi & App - hilariously bad. Design in your head the things you would want in a microwave app. Sharp engineers designed the opposite. Can you set the alarm settings in the app? No. Do you get a notification each time the microwave finishes cooking? Yes. I guarantee you will delete the app within 48 hours. Hand Wave to open. Neat right? No. Take how long it takes for this thing to open/close and add another 4-8 seconds of waving your hands (which are full food, else you'd just press the button) to then wait for the drawer to open. Push to close works well, but it reacts in a weird way, so some concern I'm breaking it. I stopped doing wave to open after the first week and stopped trying to demonstrate it to friends after one month (cause it will make you look silly). Height - just tall enough - fits a Venti coffee Cooks at 950 watts - basically the same power as a college-dorm microwave Cost. my god, how much did I spend on this. The good: Looks good Flush install if you have a good installer; mine is shown in a 30" wide lower microwave cabinet by Medallion Reheat sensor cook works well push to close works. It was suggested that I buy a Sharp because they have the patent on the drawer microwave and everyone else is just a re-labelled Sharp. I would suggest you give the others a look. They may be using the same hardware, but hopefully they have a more customer-focused interface and better software engineers working for them.

Sharp 1200w microwave seems to be tripping lightly (can hear clicking noises)and cause heating to be irregular

Clean the food off the inside top of the microwave Now,Or that noise you are hear will stop along with the microwave. The food gets on the Formica Squire which is how the micro waves heat your food. 1st unplug the Microwave then spray the inside of the unit with something like Fantastic or something strong and use glove so you don't burn you hand,Also if you have a scrub brush use it,And clean all the soap out and raise very well.

Buzzing sound... Turntable stopped. food heats up but uneven. No microwave fan when heating.. no light inside expensive fix?? Unit is 10 years old

If the microwave oven is 10 years old then it is time to consider a new unit, by your description it is going into cascade failure where different parts have stopped working, the buzzing sound is the magnetron warning you, it is about to fail. The fans job is to keep the magnetron cool while it is running.

The microwave will not heat food. It will turn on the turntable will go around and the time will count down but the food is not heated when done. tried different heat setting with no results.

This seems to be a common problem, there are three parts that will cause this, the magnetron "heats food" a common failure, the high voltage diode and capacitor are the other two culprits. The cost to repair will approach the price of a new oven.

I have a sharp over the range convection microwave modelr-1874F The convection works but the microwave sounds like it working, the turntable turns but it does not heat the food we tried unplugging it for...

Every time the microwave part of an oven do not heat it normaly means a faulty MAGNETRON (the device that produces microwves) unfortunately if it's the magnetron they are allmost as expensive as the oven it self, you could allways check for a burned fuse, (allways be prudent opening an applyance)

Good luck!

At least twice in the past month have had food explode all over the microwave (as if it was overheating). Items vented properly or not covered at all. this time, kept making poppong noises for at lesat 10...

If you have an item overheating, try looking at the directions on the unit for the watts and adjust cooking time according to the oven. Some foods will explode if left for too long in a quick heating microwave oven. If this is a new problem and the microwave is 4 years old, you may consider the unit is beyond its useful life. Its difficult to tell w/o knowing the brand, but it could be the meagtron tube is simply wearing/worn out. Let me know if this helps. m

Everything on my microwave works except it stopped heating food

I found this on another blog and it worked for me.

Model #KB6024MK, this is a Sharp microwave drawer that would open and close properly, but when started would not heat. These drawer units will sometimes close properly, but not enough to actuate the interlock switches to power the magnetron. A quick test is to turn the unit on and press in on the drawer handle while it is running. If you start hearing the low hum of the magnetron, the interlock assembly is out of adjustment. Removed the left side panel and gained access to the switch mounts to do a quick adjustment so when the drawer closes, the switches close properly to allow operation. It may take more than one adjustment to make it work properly so test it several times before reinstalling the side panel. It should work properly when the drawer auto closes and should not require any manual manipulation from the user.

Does not heat

The magnatron unit has malfunctioned. You should be able to replace that unit if you're mechanically apt, although with the price of microwave ovens, you might just as well get a new one that's under warantee.
