Hello Please help me. i just borrow an external hd to my friend and works for a two day period but when i bought it back its now looking for a driver and we cannot i access the files anymore. It will promp you to search some drivers but it cannot find the specific one. We tried it also to other pc's and laptops but still the same. Please i need some help. The files are very important for a business, im in big trouble.pls help.
I had the same problem. Since the warranty had expired I opened up the casing and found that the plastic braces from holding the harddrive had broken and the drive had disconnected from the circuit board. Simply reattaching it solved the problem for me.
If the external drive has provisions for external power you'll need to
plug that in, usb ports cannot power a 320 drive. If the drive has 2
usb plugs (one for additional power) you'll need them both plugged in,
and I would suggest that the laptop should also be running off of
external power rather than battery.
AND also
Any drivers you need should be on simpletech's website, though normally
you should not need any for a usb hdd. If the power cord/a/c adaptor is
faulty or the hdd is loose in the enclosure(thus not making good
contact) then you should pester simpletech to either replace the cord,
a/c adaptor,or unit, and see if there are instructions on how to take
apart the enclosure and reseat the drive/connections.
Hopes this would help you in recognise and rectify the problem.
Hi there,
I had the same problem, I mailed the drive to a friend, when it got back it would turn on and then Windows would begin looking for software/drivers.
I opened up the drive and found the SATA cable was no longer fully seated. The connection was not nearly as snug as most connections I've seen before. Anyway I reseated the connection, plugged in and the problem was solved.
So to fix:
Open it, check the connections, plug it back in and test again
Be careful as it's tight in there and the angle of the connection is such that it could come undone again as you try to squeeze the drive back into the cradle
Hope this helps!
I do not know if this will work for all.
I was using a long wire, and had the same problem.
I tried the wire that came with the drive, (any short wire)
and it worked with out AC.
I hope it works for all.
Good luck!

Hi guys,
This type of problem is fairly common.
There are two common reasons why this happens:
1. The drive may not have been properly ejected causing corruption of the files. This can be fixed by running the command prompt and typing in CHKDSK ?: /F where ?=damaged drives letter.
2. Hardware failure, either the circuit board on the drive or the one in the simpletech case may be damaged. Generally with a driver issue it is the latter and can be solved easily by stopping in at your local computer store and having them transfer the actual drive into a new drive enclosure.
If neither of these solutions work, then you will most likely need the help of a data recovery pro in your region. If you are in North America I suggest Armor-IT Data Recovery, India www.diskdoctorsindia.com or if you are elsewhere comment back with your region and I will make another recommendation.
Hope this helps FixYa,
Chris

Mine won't work either. Can't find the drivers anywhere on the web. Any suggestions? It's SimpleTech 329GB. SP-U35/320-96300-41001-012
i have the same problem. the drive will not mount in linux or windows 2000.
I also have the same problem. I can get the drive to do absolutely nothing.
I have windows ME operating system. It will not recognize the drive when I try to access it from windows explorer. Very disappointing, none of my usual tricks will work. It is looking for a driver who knows where that is.
I think it would work if it was reformatted, no way to do this because the PC can't see it.
My computer is looking for the driver but cannot find the specific one to install. Please help!
My computer cant find/recognize my 320GB either except im running Windows XP!! I've tried it on 2 computers already.

Same exact problem. No help on simpletech website either.
Same problem, looking for a driver, Mr. go look for a driver at Simpletech
don't you think that that the first thing most people have tried. Anyways you have go to Pininfarina to even find this hard drive. thats the frigin rocket scienetists that designed the style. ooooh! so cool, not.
ok mi simpletech is working on other computers but not my mac. i got this mac used without the disks, so i created another user and deleted my friends user information. when i did this i lost mac standard utlities and apps . maybe i need an app / driver to read the disk  that i deleted
I have had the same exact problem with my hard drive. I have tried the unit on computers that are running XP and Vista, and have had the same problems. I contacted the manufacturer, and thier response was to update my Chipset and drivers from the computer manufacturers. This is a brand new computer, I should not have to update the chipset. I have never had problems connecting other manufacturers hard drives to any of my computers. My suggestion is to trash the thing, and buy a reputable name brand hard drive.
I have a simpletech 320gb and none of my computers recognize it! I also am having the hardest time finding a driver on line!
