My nikon d70 gives me a "For" error

The camera does everthing like its going to take the picture but it wont click the green led in bottom right comes on the "For" error message appears and when i hit the menu button the hour glass comes on and it takes a while to come and says card is not formated and i when i try formating it it says formating stays on for a while turns and nothing what can i do save me

  • Anonymous Jun 24, 2008

I had the same problem. I was clicking along taking one picture after another with my D70 when all of a sudden the shutter release button stopped working and I got the "For" error message. Tried going to Nikon's website to down suggested firmware upgrade. Couldn't find anything there, In fact, the D70 was not even in their camera listing. So, I tried a different CF card. The D70 said the 'folder contains no images' but the back panel said the card was empty. What's going on here? Nevertheless, I reformatted the card and problem solved. I took some shots with my portrait lens, switched to the stock lens and everything was working again.

If green LED is blinking constantly when camera is turned on, this is a known problem with D70. Upgrade camera firmware from nikonusa.com website.

I got rid of it by turning off the camera, taking out the card, putting it back in, and turning the camera back on.

I have a Nikon d70 SLR. I had this camera completely cleaned and tuned up 3 months ago. Recently I can not take pictures. The battery powers the camera, but the shutter wont engage. An "error" message...

Read the manual on how to do a two-button reset. Also: from the nNikon Support Page on the D70::
It has come to our attention that select electrical components in a limited number of D70 cameras may, in some instances, fail affecting camera performance and/or operability.
While only a limited number of D70 cameras are affected by this advisory, if (1) when a memory card is inserted, your D70's memory card access lamp blinks, locking camera operations and preventing operation, or (2) with no memory card inserted, the camera will not turn on despite the battery indicator showing a fully charged battery, Nikon Inc. will service it free of charge.
To obtain complimentary service for cameras affected by this advisory, please click the link below to download and print the Service Return Form. The Service Return Form provides return instructions.
The Frequently Asked Questions button at the bottom of this page offers more information about this advisory and, should you have more questions, also provides information about how to contact Nikon.
We apologize for any inconvenience you may experience.

Camera will not power up changed battery just went dead Nikon D70

Fixing a Dead Nikon D70 - Green Blinking Light My first-generation Nikon D70, which I bought the day it was released to the market a few years back, died on me a few months ago. Without a card in it, it won't start, and when you insert a CF card in the slot, the green data-access indicator flashes on and off. If I hold down the Menu button, the menu flashes on and off along with the green LED.
d70_87x1.jpgAs it turns out, this is a known problem with the original Nikon D70 cameras, and Nikon USA has a service bulletin out on the camera body. They'll repair it free of charge.
So, if you have the same problem, visit this service bulletin page, http://nikonusa.com/Service-And-Support/Service-Advisories/D70-Service-Advisory.page click on the D70, and you can access a PDF file that you'll need to print, fill out and send to Nikon along with your camera body. Be sure to take your camera strap off and remove the battery, and don't send any lenses or other accessories.
Mine's on it's way to Nikon now - they say the turnaround is five days (plus shipping time).

Get a usb memory card reader. I have never ever used the cord from camera to pc. It's so much easier to just take out the card.

Problem

If D70, and it applies to any card used then examine the loading LED. This is a green diode which gives a brief flash when you insert a card. If it continues flashing whilst giving you the message, then this is a know fault with the camera and Nikon will fix it free of charge.

Nikon D70 Help

I don't think there is really any such thing as a 100% "natural picture". What your eyes see and what film or a sensor "see" are not the same. All photos are manipulated to some degree whether it be from the type of film or the digital "modes" you use. If you would have shot with a film such as Velvia, the greens may have been more "stellar" or maybe too green. There are a number of settings you can use to get the results more to your liking with a D70, or shoot NEF and post process to your liking. Your exposure will make a difference so you may want to bracket.
