Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

The Blue color is double imaged and when i do the magic focus, red and green do fine but blue the "bars" at the top are smudged and there are no bottom bars showing.

It is called convergence problem. Model indicated uses a single convergence chip for this. I will attach photo of the part; part on EBAY is well under 20 dollars.

Part is a STK-393-110.

The good news is I have start to finish, step by step instructions for the do it yourself person for this repair.

Yes very common. the convergince is off Meanning that the three colors dont alline proper. may be that it just needs to teak the converg settings or the convergince board is bad. worst case convergince ic'c are defective. bench test and shop fees will run $170.00-$380.00 +/- if you want get it checked out but you can get a plasma for twice the money.dont buy dlp lamps dont last. good luck!

Thanks, i figured as much, the cost of a non DIY repair isnt worth it, but all this wood it's made out of should keep me warm through the winter as firewood!
