Mine just churns and the lcd screen says "loading." It is quite lame that Sony advises if you have a problem tell the retailer. I have the FX810 and it tries to load and then after a minute or two I get the Check Disc message.
I just found out through the Sony service website that they want $156 for an exchange, or $126 for service. I originally paid $159.99
I am very disappointed in this product! I have the FX810 and it tries to load and then after a minute or two I get the Check Disc message.

This is truly a piece of ****. I have the same problem. Although it's annoying if you hit the top of the dvd cover while it's freezing very swiftly, it keeps playing. For a while it was working ok, now we are back to the freezes. Sony wants to charge the price of a new one to fix it. Ours stopped working after 6 months....out of warranty. Again, piece of ****.

Same issue here after about 4 months of use. I pushed the skip button a couple of times one day while a disc was playing and it hasn't worked since.

Try switching the LINE SELECT button from OUT to IN, then back to OUT. This solved the problem in which our Sony DVP-FX810 player showed LOADING for around 30-45 seconds and then CHECK DISC.
I have both fx810 and fx815, i bought from the fx810 from US and bring it back to canada, after few week it freeze when playing. I bought a Samsung and never have any problem even my 5 an 3 years old use it, they move around and use it anywhere.
I just bought a liquidation from Futureshop, it a demo and no accessory, get it very great deal, since I still have all the accessory with my fx810 so I don't mind, I was able watching movie and now it just keep loading and do nothing. Sometime I just move the head to the center and it can read the disk.
I now have two Sony, the first one can read the disk and freeze after few minutes, the second one if it can load the disk then it is OK. If I can combine the two into one then I am fine, but unfortunately I can't. Sony was my trust brand and now it is not. Avoid the Sony Portable DVD player.

This of course may not be the exact same thing, but mine did the same thing. Sounding like it was loading, but in fact pressing the open button it I could see the disc not spining at all (normally you would.) With the power off of course. I took all the bottom screws out (where ever the arrow points to a screw) including to the display. There is one ribbon cable easily disconnected. I lifted the mount the DVD sits on and reseated it. I put a disc in it, turned on the power and the disc turned. Great I thought. I reconnect the cable, put the screws back in - and its working.
What you are hearing is the attempt to read the disk. The unti detects that a disc is present and attempts to read it by spinning it first at CD speeds then at DVD speeds. It will attempt this a number of times before giving up and reporting "no disc". If you can get at the optics, try cleaning the lens using a cotton swab and alcohol. Next try to read a CD. If you can read a music CD and not a DVD, it indicates that the optics are starting to fail and need to be replaced.
I have the same problem! The only way to fix this is to replace the motor that spins the DVD. if you take it apart and spin the DVD the movie will play. The motor is just wore out and has no torque to start the play process. I am still looking for a replacement motor for it and haven't found anyone that carries the motor required. Only Audiovox so far and they want 180 to send in and fix.
Our started doing the same thing about a week after the warranty ran out. It has to do with the alignment of the discs being loaded. here's a work-around that works for us: Open the tray Choose which disc you are going to watch and use the Change Disc button to push the selected disc to the back (ie, if you want to view Disc 1, discs 3 and 4 will be visible in the tray). Look down the center holes of discs 3 and 4... manually move your tray left-or-right to align the holes with the tray. Push the Direct Play button on the top right of the unit for your disc of choice (Disc 1 using the example above).
hope that helps... I've searched for a while and played around with the unit (with and without the cover on) trying to figure out a way to re-align the tray, but no luck.
sir,,,your appliance needs maintenance,,,,u need to clean your dvd player especially its lens but be careful you might destroy it,,,use ligther fluid or any in cleaning liquid materials but it should evaporate fast,,,,thnkss and hope to help you thnksssssss,,!!
Sorry, no suggestion other than don't buy Samsung. That's my conclusion after owning the same model. It worked fine for a while, but now won't load any DVD... usually. Sometimes it will play one, but more often it won't. Mine tries to load ("Loading") for a long time, I hear the DVD spinning, then ultimately the screen displays "This disc cannot be played" or something to that effect.
I had the same problem but I solved buying "Laser Lens Cleaner " Philips Magnavox after 3 attempts the DVD starts to work fine again. First only 3 min, then 10 min and now the entire CD cleaner and after I left the CD cleaner for 15 min I tried to play the DVD and WORKS!!! perfect!!!
wont read any dvd, keeps spinning says loading but nothing happens, so frusterating. player was a gift brand new barely used and now out of warranty
is a ******* ****
