Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.
The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.
Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.
Get online
and got to www.google.com In the google search box type: "Acer
Support" (without the quotes and put your manufacturer name before Support).
Look for downloads and drivers. Enter your model number and operating
system when requested. Download and install the Card Reader drivers.
If
after installing the drivers the reader still does not work, you can
purchase a multi format card reader that will plug into you usb port
from Tiger Direct for less than $15. at
http://www.tigerdirect.com
When
the site comes up just put in the search at the top "SD Card Reader or
XD Card Reader" depending you your type and press GO. You can sort the
returned results by Price Low to High.
Do
you have a USB Cable that came with the camera that you can plug into
one of the usb ports on the computer? If so, try that. It's another
way of getting pictures off the camera. Plug the cable on the camera
and into the computer then turn the camera on. The computer will
recognize the camera and install the drivers. You can navigate through
the camera folders just like you do any other device to find the
pictures.
