First ,touchpad freezes (including scroll). the mouse on screen moves every...20 minutes. clicking sets off a continuous beep. this stops after maybe 5 minutes. the light on the wireless button doesn't change colors when turned off. keyboard doesn't work. it's as if the computer can't recognize the keyboard or touchpad. i don't think it's overheating because this happens when i first turn it on and it's cool. i've had the ave.exe virus before but symantec removed it. it might still be on my computer because in problems and solutions windows said it wasn't compatible with the system. the synaptic pointer device, the only mouse, is said to run properly in device manager. its drivers are fine. registry has been cleaned. lately it's been running really slow. my anti-virus programs don't find any spyware or viruses. there's a n vidia graphics "problem" on Problems and Solutions but no solutions. device manager says everything running fine except for some ms adapters and teredo tunneling interface, another adapter. i dropped my laptop about 6 months ago but i've had this problem since its 1st month. it's also fully updated. is it a hardware or software issue? and what part do you think? would this problem be covered in the warranty?

The touch mouse will scroll and move but won't click.

you might have to reset it
Most modern laptops with touchpads offer vertical scrolling, horizontal scrolling or both. These features are located along the right-hand and bottom edges of the touchpad, respectively, and are activated when you swipe your finger along the touchpad edge. Scrolling functionality is nearly always enabled by default, but some users find the feature an annoyance and elect to turn it off. In most cases you can simply turn the feature back on using the Windows Control Panel.

Click the Windows Start button, select "Settings," and then click "Control Panel." Double-click the icon labeled "Mouse." Select the Touchpad properties tab. The labeling of this tab varies, depending on your computer manufacturer, operating system version and the device drivers installed on your machine. Common labels include "Touch Pad," "Device Settings" and "Dell Touchpad." If you do not see this option, you may not be able to turn on scrolling for your laptop; skip the remaining steps and refer to the "Warnings" section below. Click the "Settings" button within the Touchpad Properties menu and look for the section labeled "Scrolling Settings" or similar. Enable scrolling within this section and define other scroll settings, such as scroll zone width and scrolling speed. Click "OK" to confirm your changes, and then close the Control Panel windows opened in the previous steps. The scrollbar on your laptop is now enabled.
Scroll Is Not Working With Windows 7 b> Certain computer touchpads have a vertical section on the pad itself that is used to scroll through the page or program window that you are currently viewing on your computer. If the scroll functionality suddenly stops working but the actual touchpad is still fine, this means that the part of the software for the device that controls the ability to use the scroll has been disabled. You can enable it again in the Control Panel.
Click "Start." Click "Control Panel." Click "Mouse." Select the "Enable Scroll" option (or whatever similarly named option is available on your specific model of laptop computer). Click "Apply." The scroll bar on your touchpad will now work again.

Touchpad must be continually tapped to make scroll bar scroll up or down

Different laptop uses different type of touch pads. If your's an old laptop, that may not have a scroll function by simply sliding your finger through the right edge(top to bottom and vise versa) to scroll to a desired level. A new laptop has all these functions. Go to the control panel click on classic view in the left pane in case of xp and vista. Then you can see the mouse icon.click on it and select the device setting tab. then click on setting and a new window will open. There click on scrolling and click on one finger scrolling you can see the scrolling properties. tick mark the vertical and horizontal scrolling boxes. click apply then ok and close all the way. Thats it All done. Hope it helps

How do you turn off the touch pad

Some notebook users find the touch pad annoying because at times, while typing fast, their thumbs accidentally brush up against the touchpad. This is frustrating because the mouse cursor jumps to a random location on the screen and can cause undesirable things.

To turn off the touchpad when an external mouse or other pointing device is present, you can goto the Control Panel and double click the Mouse properties icon.

Click the Device Select tab and check "Disable Touch Pad when USB Pointing Device is present." The cursor will no longer move via the touchpad.

I have a Dell laptop computer with Windows Vista Basic. The mouse on the screen has become very sensitive and sometimes it clicks on an item when it scrolls across the screen. How can I make it less...

  1. Right-click on the desktop and select Personalize > Mouse Pointers . The Mouse Properties settings window will open.
  2. Alternately, click Start and type Mouse in the Search field, and select Mouse when it becomes available in the program list. The Mouse Properties settings window will open.
  3. Select the Device Settings tab. Select the Synaptics TouchPad device and click Settings . In the Properties for Synaptics TouchPad window, expand the Sensitivity topic.
  4. Select the PalmCheck option to adjust the sensitivity of the touchpad to avoid erratic cursor movement caused by accidental touching of the pad during normal typing.
  5. Select the Touch Sensitivity option to adjust how much finger pressure is required to move the mouse on the screen and how responsive the touchpad is to taps.
