I already have 2 of the same switches and want to connect a third. My 1st switch is cabled at port 24 to the 2nd switch at port 24. Where would I connect the 3 switch with the other two?
I actually had to call in the "big dogs" to help. I am dabbling in this for my agency and learning as I go, with some formal training along the way. Hopefully, one day, I'll have a clue!!I actually had to call in the "big dogs" to help. I am dabbling in this for my agency and learning as I go, with some formal training along the way. It does not have to be port 24 to port 24 - You just need to make sure that whatever port you use is configured the same way as port 24 - Example: Log into switch #2 and set port 23 with the same attributes as port 24. Also log into you new switch and make sure port 23 (or 24) is configured the same as those on switch #2. You can the cleanly go from switch #1 - port 24 to switch #2 - port 23 AND switch #2 port 24 to switch #3 port 23 - If you also configure switch #3 port 24 like the others you'll be ready for any additional expansion

Hi'' as you have purchase a new one, uncover side of your unit then try to learn and have a diagram by copying in each where the all wires go '' or take a photo of it,''' thanks
The cable modem will need to go through a router because it needs a NAT and PAT translation table, connecting the cable modem direct would lose the ability to get to the internet.
Unfortunately the show stack isn't showing any results other than it is either a hardware or software fault. I am guessing it is a fault with the hardware as the show version in your first post states "interface Ethernet-controller 4 failed POST POST error status : general error occured".
Ethernet-controller 4 is one if the gigabit ports (poss fibre port), so if you have anything attached to those, disconnect and reboot the switch and see what happens. If that doesn't work, you could try reinstalling the IOS, but at a guess I would say its a hardware fault.

The proper way to console to a switch (at least as far as Cisco Catalyst Switches are concerned) is a rollover cable and a DB9 adapter... I then use HyperTerminal to connect..
What type of switch are you connecting to, and what kind of hardware are you using?
I always use Cisco for networking (Cisco is the king of switches and routers).. here is their step by step for connecting to one of their swtiches:
