White lines across TV screeen

My TV has little white lines sort of like dashes across the entire width of
the screen. It runs across the heads of the people on the screen and looks like it will soon come down to the eyes

If these lines are just at the top of the picture then i would suspect an electrolytic capacitor in the vertical circuit.

It's data attached to the video stream - closed captioning and the like - whic is always there even when you can't see it. In some TVs in some modes, seeing this is normal, even a feature. CRT and projection TVs: adjust vertical size or position. LCD/Plasma: feature or software flaw.

Worth noting that some cable systems incorrectly format this data, causing it to be displayed by a TV that id functioning normally. Of course, they'll deny this.

  • Anonymous Jul 02, 2008

That is, of course, unless you have a continuous line and a CRT set. Then there's a flat cap in the vertical out. As a general shotgun assessment, replace all electrolytic capacitors in the vertical section and it will likely be fixed. Nothing to try if you're not electro-tinkering inclined.

My tv sony kv-xa21m61 display too bright and many horizontal lines. no picture

Vertical retrace lines is the problem. Thin white lines runs across the entire screen, at about an inch apart to each other. Check its video output supply voltage. Reduce the screen voltage to a little bit down and check. If you still wish to know more about this fault, check this site. Pull up older posts there.

Thin white line across middle of screeen

i would say it might be an indication of the screen going bad or the controls on the inside of the tv need to be adjusted.good luck

Samsung LN-S4692D - Vertical lines (>15) & static on screen

this sounds like a scan board gone ,, if you check ebay youll see two things,
1, other tvs for sale with the same fault (It might give you a clue to the fault ie , which board )
2, the same tv as yours with a broken screen ,

i dont know how good you are with taking things to bits but i personally would buy the tv with the broken screen and start swapping over the internal boards ?

Have you checked your home insurance policy for broken tv,s
it may have fell of its stand when you were'nt looking?

White horizontal lines at top of picture

Yes, definitely worth fixing. The problem lies in the vertical deflection voltage-doubler circuit. The usual fault is a single capacitor of 100uF/35V that has failed. It is normally connected to a rectifier diode right at the vertical IC. Replacing the capacitor (no more than USD4.00 in price) usually gets it working perfectly again. If you are finicky around technical work, then a reputable local repair shop in your locality should do it quickly for you and charge only labour.
